Charles Hiller Innes
Charles Hiller Innes (August 6, 1870 in Boston, Massachusetts – May 27, 1939) was a lawyer and politician who led the Massachusetts Republican Party during the 1910s and 1920s. Legal career Innes graduated from Boston University School of Law in 1892. He was admitted to the bar of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts in 1892 and to the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States in 1901. In 1898 he and a classmate, James H. Vahey, started their own firm. They were joined by Philip Mansfield in 1905. Upon his graduation from law school, Innes conducted evening courses in his law office for the preparation of candidates for the bar. These classes were the first evening courses of their kind established in the state; furthermore, Innes founded the first night law school in the United States known as the Charles H. Charles John Innes
Charles John Innes (June 1, 1901 – November 27, 1971) was an American politician who served as a member of the Massachusetts General Court and was the legal counsel to the Massachusetts Senate. Innes was born on June 1, 1901 in New York City. His father, Charles Hiller Innes, was a Massachusetts Republican Party leader. Innes graduated from Harvard College in 1922 and the Boston University School of Law in 1926. From 1927 to 1930, Innes was assistant corporation counsel for the city of Boston. From 1933 to 1943 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He then represented the 3rd Suffolk District in the Massachusetts Senate. From 1947 to 1949 and again from 1951 to 1955 he was the Republican floor leader. In 1956, Innes was named legal counsel to the Senate. He held this position until June 1971, when ill health forced him to step down. He was allowed to stay on as associate counsel until his death on November 27, 1971. Charles Alexander Innes
Sir Charles Alexander Innes (27 October 1874 – 28 June 1959) was a British civil servant and colonial administrator who served as Governor of the British Crown Colony of Burma from December 1927 to December 1932. He was also formerly chairman of the Mercantile Bank of India. Early life and education Innes was born in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, to Deputy Surgeon-General Charles Alexander Innes, and Jessie Mary Arnold (''née'' Marshall). His mother was born in Madras to General Hubert Marshall of the old Madras Army. Innes Jr. was educated at Merchant Taylors' School and St. John's College, Oxford. He passed the Indian Civil Service examination in 1897. Career Innes was sent to the Madras Presidency because of his family connections. There have been four baronetcies created for people with the surname Innes, three in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia and one in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. Three of the creations are extant as of 2010. The Innes, later Innes-Ker Baronetcy, of Innes in the County of Elgin, was created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia on 28 May 1625 for Robert Innes and is the Premier Baronetcy of the Baronetage of Nova Scotia.
