Charles Hyman
Charles Smith ("C.S.") Hyman, (August 31, 1854 – October 8, 1926) was a Canadian businessman, and notable politician and sportsman. He was a popular tennis player and won a record five Canadian Opens until broken by Ivan Lendl with six titles. Early life and business Born in London, Canada West, the son of Ellis Walton Hyman, a tanner and entrepreneur, and Annie Maria Niles, he was educated at Hellmuth Academy in London and then started a shoe factory with his father in 1874. In 1876, he married Elizabeth Birrell, and two years they had Idlewyld mansion built, which is now an inn. Hyman was president of the London Board of Trade from 1881 to 1882. In 1916 he built a summer estate in Port Stanley Ontario on the shore of Lake Erie. He was also a tannery owner. Politics Hyman was elected to London city council in 1882 and was mayor in 1884. London (electoral District)
London was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1968. It was located in the province of Ontario. It consisted initially of the City of London, Ontario. In 1914, it was redefined to exclude parts of the former township of London, which was now a part of the city. In 1924, it was redefined as consisting of that part of the city of London lying west of and south of a line following (from the north) Adelaide Street and Oxford Street, the east side of Wolsley Barracks area, Middleton Avenue, Glasgow Street, Lorne Avenue, Burbrook Place, Dundas Street, Swinyard Street, Pine Street, Elm Street, Trafalgar Street, Adelaide Street, the south branch of the River Thames, Beverly Street, and Wellington Street south to the south boundary of the city. Rogers Cup (tennis)
The Canadian Open (french: Tournoi de tennis du Canada), also known as the Canada Masters, and currently branded as the National Bank Open presented by Rogers for sponsorship reasons, is an annual tennis tournament held in Ontario and Quebec. The men's competition is a Masters 1000 event on the ATP Tour, and the women's competition is a WTA 1000 tournament on the WTA Tour. The competition is played on outdoor hard courts. Prior to 2011, they were held during separate weeks in the July–August period; now the two competitions are held during the same week in August. The events alternate from year to year between the cities of Montreal and Toronto. Since 2021 in even-numbered years the men's tournament is held in Montreal, while the women's tournament is held in Toronto, and vice versa in odd-numbered years.
