Charles H. Winfield
Charles Henry Winfield (April 22, 1822 – June 10, 1888) was a U.S. Representative from New York during the latter half of the American Civil War and the beginning of Reconstruction. Biography Winfield was born in Crawford, New York where he completed preparatory studies before going on to study law. He was admitted to the bar in 1846 and commenced practice in Goshen, New York where he eventually went on to serve as district attorney for Orange County from 1850-1856. Winfield was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-eighth and Thirty-ninth Congresses (March 4, 1863 – March 3, 1867) but he was not a candidate for renomination in 1866 and resumed his legal practice. He died in Walden, New York Walden is the largest of three villages of the town of Montgomery in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 6,818 at the 2020 census. Charles Van Wyck
Charles Henry Van Wyck (May 10, 1824October 24, 1895) was a Representative from New York, a Senator from Nebraska, and a Union Army brigadier general in the American Civil War. Early life and political career Van Wyck was born in Poughkeepsie, New York. He was a distant cousin of Robert Anderson Van Wyck and Augustus Van Wyck; their common ancestors were Theodorus Van Wyck (1668-1753) and his wife Margretia Brinckerhoff Van Wyck. He completed preparatory studies and graduated from Rutgers College, New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1843. Van Wyck studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1847 and commenced the practice of law. He then moved to Bloomingburg, New York, where he became the district attorney of Sullivan County, New York (1850-1856). Walden is the largest of three villages of the town of Montgomery in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 6,818 at the 2020 census. Walden is part of the Poughkeepsie− Newburgh− Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York− Newark−Bridgeport, NY- NJ- CT- PA Combined Statistical Area. The precursor to the village began in the early 18th century as a mill town along the Wallkill River. One miller, Jacob Walden, was so successful the village that incorporated in the mid-19th century took its name from him. Later, it would be the village's three knife manufacturers that brought it growth and prosperity. They are gone today, but other industrial concerns remain.
