Charles H. Russell
Charles Hinton Russell (December 27, 1903 – September 13, 1989) was an American politician who served as the List of Governors of Nevada, 20th Governor of Nevada. He was a member of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party. Biography Russell was born on December 27, 1903, in Lovelock, Nevada. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, University of Nevada in 1926. He taught school in Ruby Valley for one term and then went to Ruth, Nevada, Ruth to work for the copper company. He was the editor of the ''Ely Record'' for seventeen years, beginning in 1929. Political career Russell was a member of the Nevada state Senate from 1941 to 1946. After that, he was elected as a Republican to the Eightieth Congress, succeeding Democrat Berkeley L. Bunker, who ran unsuccessfully for the U. S. Senate. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1948 to the Eighty-first Congress, narrowly losing to Reno, Nevada, Reno City Councilman Walter S. Baring. He was elec ... Ruth, Nevada
Ruth is a census-designated place (CDP) in White Pine County, Nevada, United States. Founded in 1903, it had a population of 440 at the 2010 census. Ruth was built as a company town for the adjacent Robinson Mine, a large open-pit copper mine, which is still in operation as of 2022. Demographics History Ruth began as a settlement for workers of the White Pine Copper Company in 1903. It derived its name from the Ruth mining claim which was named for Ruth McDonald, daughter of the original owner of the mining claim. With the opening Nevada Northern Railway in the year 1906 copper production began to boom. In 1905, Daniel C. Jackling "evaluated a low-grade copper prospect", which he turned into "an impressive open-pit and satellite cave (the Veteran Mine)."
