Charles H. Cole (banker)
Charles H. Cole (January 5, 1847 – August 14, 1906) was an American banker who served as president of the Globe National Bank of Boston from 1897 to 1899. He pleaded guilty to willful misapplication of bank funds and served six years in jail. Early life Cole was born on July 5, 1847, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, to Job and Hannah (Frye) Cole. At the age of 5 his family moved to South Boston. In 1862, Cole began his business career as an office boy in a private banking house. Business career Globe National Bank In 1868, Cole went to work as a clerk at the Globe National Bank. He rose through the company over the next 13 years and in 1881 he was made cashier. As cashier, Cole was given authority greatly beyond what was normal for the office, especially in the matter of loans. Francis Cabot Lowell (January 7, 1855 – March 6, 1911) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and of the United States Circuit Courts for the First Circuit and previously was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Early life Lowell was born on January 7, 1855, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the only son of George Gardner Lowell (1830–1885) and Mary Ellen ( Parker) Lowell (1832–1915), a daughter of James Parker. Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease usually caused by '' Mycobacterium tuberculosis'' (MTB) bacteria. Tuberculosis generally affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body. Most infections show no symptoms, in which case it is known as latent tuberculosis. Around 10% of latent infections progress to active disease which, if left untreated, kill about half of those affected. Typical symptoms of active TB are chronic cough with blood-containing mucus, fever, night sweats, and weight loss. It was historically referred to as consumption due to the weight loss associated with the disease. Infection of other organs can cause a wide range of symptoms. Good Conduct Time
Good conduct time, good time credit, good time, or time off for good behavior is a sentence reduction given to prisoners who maintain good behavior while imprisoned. Good time can be forfeited if a prisoner is determined to have committed disciplinary infractions and/or crimes while incarcerated. Under United States federal law, prisoners serving more than one year in prison get 54 days a year of good time on the anniversary of each year they serve plus the pro rata good time applied to a partial year served at the end of their sentence, at the rate of 54 days per year.
