Charles Guy Pym (11 February 1841 – 12 November 1918) was a British Conservative Party politician. Charles Guy Pym was born in Willian, the younger son of Rev. William Pym and Sophie Gambier. His grandfather Francis Pym had been MP for Bedfordshire. Charles Pym was educated at Rossall School. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Bedford from 1895 to 1906. Willian, Hertfordshire
Willian is a village and former civil parish, now in the unparished area of Letchworth, in the North Hertfordshire district, in the county of Hertfordshire, England. Along with Norton and Old Letchworth, it is one of the original three villages around which the garden city of Letchworth Garden City was created. Despite this, the village retains a separate character to the rest of Letchworth Garden City. In 1931 the parish had a population of 210. History The village was referred to in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Wilie", and the name probably derives from a word meaning "willows". There is no explicit mention of a church or priest at Willian in the Domesday Book, but the current parish church of All Saints seems to have been started a few years later in the early twelfth century. Francis Pym (1756–1833)
Francis Pym (27 October 1756 – 4 December 1833) was a British M.P. and High Sheriff. Biography Francis was the son of William Pym and Elizabeth née Kingsley and lived at the family seat of Hasells Hall (which he considerably improved) in Sandy, Bedfordshire. He was a Whig Member of Parliament for Bedfordshire from 1806 to 1818, and from 1820 to 1826. He was also High Sheriff of Bedfordshire in 1791. He married Anne Palmer in 1784; they had four sons: Francis, Revd William Wollaston, Robert and Charles and two daughters Anne and Catherine who all survived them, and two sons who did not, one having died in infancy and the other, John, a lieutenant in the 13th Light Dragoons, having been killed at the Battle of Waterloo. He was the great-great-great-grandfather of Francis Leslie Pym. He is buried in Sandy, Bedfordshire with a monument sculpted by Thomas Denman. Samuel Whitbread (1830–1915)
Samuel Whitbread (5 May 1830 – 25 December 1915) was an English brewer and Liberal Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1852 to 1895. Biography Whitbread was the eldest son of Samuel Charles Whitbread of Cardington, Bedfordshire and his wife Julia Brand, daughter of Lord Dacre. He was a member of the Whitbread brewing family. Whitbread was educated at Rugby School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was private secretary to Sir George Grey in 1850 and in 1852 was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Bedford. He was a frequent speaker during his time in the commons and was Civil Lord of the Admiralty from June 1859 to March 1863. He held his seat until 1895. Whitbread lived at Southill Park, Biggleswade. He was J.P. and Deputy Lieutenant for Bedfordshire. He died at the age of 85. Percy Barlow Justice of the Peace, JP (11 July 1867 – 18 June 1931) was a British Liberal Party (UK), Liberal Party politician and barrister. Background and education He was the youngest son of Thomas Barlow and his wife Mary Ann Emmott, daughter of George Emmott. His older brother was Sir John Barlow, 1st Baronet. Following private education, Barlow went to Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1889, and then to Downing College, Cambridge, where he made his Master of Arts (Oxbridge), Master of Arts in 1893. He was called to the bar by the Inner Temple in 1892 and worked in the South-Eastern Circuit.
