Charles Granger (politician)
Charles Ronald McKay Granger, (August 12, 1912 – April 22, 1995) was a Canadian and Newfoundland politician. Born in Catalina, Newfoundland, one of two children of David Charles and Emilie Sarah (Bursey) Granger, Granger was educated at St. Peter's Anglican High School. Granger was elected as a Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) for the riding of Grand Falls—White Bay—Labrador in the 1958 election. He was re-elected in 1962, 1963, and 1965. In August 1966, he resigned from the House of Commons of Canada and became a Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for the District of Gander in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. He was appointed Minister of Labrador Affairs. Granger resigned from the House of Assembly on September 25, 1967, and returned to the House of Commons after winning a 1967 federal by-election in the riding of Bonavista—Twillingate following the retirement of Cabinet minister Jack Pickersgill. Bonavista—Twillingate
Bonavista—Twillingate was a federal electoral district in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1949 to 1968. This riding was created in 1949 when Newfoundland joined the Canadian Confederation. It was abolished in 1966 when it was redistributed into Bonavista—Trinity—Conception, Burin—Burgeo, Gander—Twillingate and Grand Falls—White Bay—Labrador ridings. It initially consisted of the Districts of Twillingate, Fogo, Bonavista North, and Bonavista South excluding any part of the territory within a radius of five miles from the railway station at Gander. The 1968 Canadian federal election was held on June 25, 1968, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 28th Parliament of Canada. In April 1968, Prime Minister Lester Pearson of the Liberal Party resigned as party leader as a result of declining health and failing to win a majority government in two attempts. He was succeeded by his Minister of Justice and Attorney General Pierre Trudeau, who called an election immediately after becoming prime minister. Trudeau's charisma appealed to Canadian voters; his popularity was known as "Trudeaumania" and helped him win a comfortable majority. John Howard Lundrigan (January 10, 1939 – March 5, 2009) was a Canadian politician, who represented the electoral district of Gander—Twillingate in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1974. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative caucus. In his parliamentary career, Lundrigan is best remembered for having been on the receiving end of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau's famous "fuddle duddle" comment of 1971.
