Charles Gardiner
Charles Gardiner (21 February 1720 – 20 November 1769) was an Irish landowner and politician. He was the son of Luke Gardiner and his wife Anne, daughter of Alexander Stewart and granddaughter of William Stewart, 1st Viscount Mountjoy. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. On 20 March 1741 he married Florinda, daughter of Robert Norman. From 1742 to 1760 he represented Taghmon in the Irish House of Commons. He was sworn of the Irish Privy Council on 15 September 1758. Gardiner inherited the estates of his mother's family, the Stewarts, following the death of William Stewart, 3rd Viscount Mountjoy and 1st Earl of Blessington, on 14 August 1769. He died later the same year and was succeeded by his eldest son Luke, for whom the Mountjoy title was revived in 1785. The Earldom of Blessington was also revived, in 1816 for Luke's son Charles. Luke Gardiner
Luke Gardiner (c. 1690 – 25 September 1755) was an Irish property developer and politician. In the Irish House of Commons he represented Tralee from 1725 until 1727 and Thomastown from 1727 until his death in 1755. He was appointed to the Irish Privy Council on 2 August 1737. In 1711 he married Anne Stewart, daughter of the Hon. Alexander Stewart and heiress in her issue to the estates of the Viscounts Mountjoy. Their son Charles also served as an MP and Privy Counsellor. During his career Gardiner acquired a wide variety of properties throughout Dublin city. The major continuous part, much of which he purchased from the Moore family in 1714, was a large piece of land to the East of the then established city. Earl Of Clancarty
Earl of Clancarty is a title that has been created twice in the Peerage of Ireland. History The title was created for the first time in 1658 in favour of Donough MacCarty, 2nd Viscount Muskerry, of the MacCarthy of Muskerry dynasty. He had earlier represented County Cork in the Irish House of Commons. Lord Clancarty had already been created a baronet in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia in , before he succeeded his father in the viscountcy. The title of Viscount Muskerry had been created in the Peerage of Ireland in 1628 for his father Charles MacCarthy. The first Earl Donough MacCarty was succeeded by his grandson Charles, the second Earl; he was the son of Charles MacCarty, Viscount Muskerry, who was killed during the Second Anglo-Dutch War. James Stopford, 2nd Earl Of Courtown
James Stopford, 2nd Earl of Courtown KP, PC (Ire) (28 May 1731 – 30 March 1810), known as Viscount Stopford from 1762 to 1770, was an Anglo-Irish peer and Tory politician who sat in the British House of Commons between 1774 and 1793. Courtown was the eldest son of James Stopford, 1st Earl of Courtown, and his wife Elizabeth (née Smith), and was educated at Trinity College Dublin. He was elected to the Irish House of Commons for Taghmon in 1761, a seat he held until 1768, and later sat as a Member of the British House of Commons for Great Bedwyn in 1774 and for Marlborough from 1780 to 1793. Between 1784 and 1793 he served as Treasurer of the Household under William Pitt the Younger. Courtown was made a Knight of the Order of St Patrick in 1783 and admitted to the Irish Privy Council in 1784. John Bowes, 1st Baron Bowes PC (I) (1691 – 22 July 1767) was an Anglo-Irish peer, politician and judge. He was noted for his great legal ability, but also for his implacable hostility to Roman Catholics. Life He was born in London, the second son of Thomas Bowes, a merchant and member of the Worshipful Company of Turners, and his wife, a Miss North, and was called to the Bar in 1712. He came to Ireland as a member of the staff of Richard West, the Lord Chancellor of Ireland, in 1723. He built up a large practice at the Irish Bar and was appointed Solicitor-General for Ireland in 1730, and Attorney-General in 1739. He was raised to the Bench as Lord Chief Baron of the Irish Exchequer in 1741, having previously failed to become third Baron (which was a surprisingly lucrative office, as the Baron received several extra fees).
