Charles G. Keenan
Charles Gradison Keenan (1813–1870) was a politician and physician in early statehood Texas who served as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives during the Third Texas Legislature. Keenan was born 28 February 1813 in Giles County, Tennessee, to Leanna (McCormick) and John Keenan. John Keenan was the first treasurer of Walker County, Texas while Charles Keenan was the first physician in Huntsville, Texas. Charles Keenan was a United States Army surgeon in the American Indian Wars, Indian campaigns before arriving in Texas. Keenan served on the first board of trustees of the Andrews Female Academy. He was a founding member of the Forest Masonic Lodge in Huntsville. He also served as grand junior warden in the Grand Lodge in 1850, and for ten years was grand treasurer of the Texas Grand Chapter of York Rite Masons. David Catchings Dickson
David Catchings Dickson (February 25, 1818 – June 5, 1880) was an American politician and physician in early Texas who served as the ninth Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives and as the fourth Lieutenant Governor of Texas. He was also a State Senator and unsuccessfully ran for governor of Texas. Dickson was born in Pike County, Mississippi. In 1830, Dickson’s family moved to Georgetown, Copiah County, Mississippi, where he married Sophronia L. Magee. Dickson attended medical school in Lexington, Kentucky, and after graduating in 1841, moved, as part of a large group, to the Montgomery County, Texas, community of Anderson (present-day Grimes County). Dickson served as a surgeon for the Army of the Republic of Texas. He served as a Justice of the Peace for Montgomery County beginning in 1845. James Wilson Henderson
James Wilson Henderson (August 15, 1817 – August 30, 1880) was the fourth Governor of Texas from November 23, 1853, to December 21, 1853. Biography Born on August 15, 1817, in Sumner County, Tennessee, Henderson moved to Texas when he was 19 to join the struggle for independence, but he arrived too late to participate. He settled in Harris County and became the county surveyor, also studying law. In 1842, he enlisted in the Somervelle Expedition. In 1843, he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives, and in 1847, became Speaker of the House. He was elected Lieutenant Governor on August 4, 1851, and was inaugurated on December 21. He became the fourth Governor of Texas on November 23, 1853, upon the resignation of his predecessor, Peter Hansborough Bell.
