Charles Frédéric Dubois
Charles Frédéric Dubois (28 May 1804 – 12 November 1867) was a Belgian naturalist. He was the author of ''Planches colorées des oiseaux de l’Europe'' ("Color plates of the birds of Europe") and ''Catalogue systématique des Lépidoptères de la Belgique'' ("Systematic catalog of the Lepidoptera of Belgium"), which was completed by his son, Alphonse Joseph Charles Dubois (1839–1921), after his death. The following quote has been widely attributed to Charles Dubois, as on thFavorite Quotesblog: "The important thing is this: to be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become." However, its correct attribution appears to be to Charles Du Bos (1882-1939), the French critic of French and English literature. Alphonse Joseph Charles Dubois
Alphonse Joseph Charles Dubois (18 October 1839 at Aix-la-Chapelle – 1 June 1921 at Coxyde-sur-Mer) was a Belgian naturalist. He took a doctorate in medicine, and in 1869 became curator of the department of vertebrates at the Royal Museum of Natural History in Brussels. Charles Du Bos
Charles Du Bos (27 October 1882 – 5 August 1939) was a French essayist and critic, known for works including ''Approximations'' (1922–37), a seven-volume collection of essays and letters, and for his ''Journal'', an autobiographical work published posthumously from 1946 to 1961. His other work included ''Byron et le besoin de la fatalité'' (1929), a study of Lord Byron, and ''Dialogue avec André Gide'' (also 1929), an essay on his friend André Gide. Influenced by thinkers including Henri Bergson, Georg Simmel and Friedrich Nietzsche, Du Bos was well-known as a literary critic in France in the 1920s and 1930s. He maintained a distance from the political developments of those decades, while nonetheless seeking in his writing to reframe political phenomena as ethical problems. ''Aipysurus duboisii'', also known commonly as Dubois' sea snake and the reef shallows sea snake, is a species of highly venomous snake in the subfamily Hydrophiinae of the family Elapidae. Its geographic range includes Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia and the northern, eastern and western coastal areas of Australia, that is the Coral Sea, Arafura Sea, Timor Sea and Indian Ocean. It lives at depths up to 80 meters (262 feet) in coral reef flats, sandy and silty sediments which contain seaweed, invertebrates and corals or sponges that can serve as shelter. It preys upon moray eels and various fish that live on the seafloor, up to 110 cm (3.6 feet) in size.
