Charles Francis Summers
Charles Francis Summers (1858-1945) was an Australian sculptor. The son of the British-born sculptor Charles Summers, he worked mainly in Rome, travelling back and forth to Australia to sell his pieces. Career Summers lived in Rome for thirty years, studying sculpture under his father, and drawing with Italian painter Ludovico Seitz. In Melbourne, he had a studio in the Grosvenor Chambers, and later, in Jolimont. He was amongst the first to quarry marble in Victoria, in the area of Benambra. Works A selection of Summers's works is preserved in the Art Museum of Rotorua, New Zealand. A number of Summers' sculptures including ''La Ballerina'' (c.1880s), ''The Four Seasons'' (''Spring'', ''Summer'', ''Autumn'', and ''Winter'') (c. 1870s), and ''The Boxers'' are situated in the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney. Richmond, Victoria
Richmond is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Yarra local government area. Richmond recorded a population of 28,587 at the 2021 census, with a median age of 34. A.W.Howitt recorded the Kulin/Woiwurrung name for Richmond as Quo-yung with the possible meaning of 'dead trees'. Three of the 82 designated major activity centres identified in the Melbourne 2030 Metropolitan Strategy are located in Richmond—the commercial strips of Victoria Street, Bridge Road and Swan Street. The diverse suburb has been the subject of gentrification since the early 1990s and now contains an eclectic mix of expensively converted warehouse residences, public housing high-rise flats and terrace houses from the Victorian-era. Ballarat Botanical Gardens
The Ballarat Botanical Gardens Reserve, located on the western shore of picturesque Lake Wendouree, in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, covers an area of 40 hectares which is divided into three distinct zones. The central Botanical Gardens reserve in the 'gardenesque' style of the Victorian pleasure garden. On either side there are open parkland buffers known as the North and South Gardens. The Gardens celebrated its sesquicentenary (150 years old) in 2007. Renowned fly fishing author Alfred Ronalds provided some of the first trees and plants for the gardens from his nursery on the other side of the lake. Features The gardens feature a large modern conservatory, returned Ex-POW war memorial, and the heritage statuary pavilion. The Stoddart Statue collection consists of 12 white marble figures from Italy donated by Thomas Stoddart in 1884.
