Charles F. O'Neall
Charles F. O'Neall (November 12, 1875 – January 29, 1929) was a real estate agent and an American Democratic politician from California. He was born 1875 in Birdville, Texas, to James E. and Annie E. O'Neall. O'Neall attended public schools in Dallas, Texas, afterwards working at various stores, then at Midland, Texas, raising stock. O'Neall married Annie May Townsend May 14, 1900, at Midland. They had three children, Ella, Annie, and Charles F., Jr. In 1906 he moved to San Diego, California, where he became a successful real estate agent. He also became active in public affairs. He was president of the San Diego Realty Board during 1911–1913, served as a Fire Commissioner under Mayor John Forward Sr., and was director of the Chamber of Commerce. He was also active with the Democratic Party, serving as its County Central Committee chairman. Birdville, Texas
Birdville was a former community in Tarrant County, Texas that was founded around 1840. Today, the community is known and incorporated as Haltom City, Texas. History A team of Texas Rangers led by Jonathan Bird were dispatched by Sam Houston to establish a fort to defend local settlers from attack by natives and bandits. The fort was located southeast of the city near the present location of Calloway's Lake on the north bank of the Trinity River near the current location of the Viridian subdivision. In 1849, after the establishment of Camp Worth, new settlements began arising in the area, including Birdville, which had a population of around fifty by 1849, when Tarrant County was established. In August of the following year, Birdville was selected as the county seat, a title which it lost to Fort Worth in November 1856. William Kettner
William "Bill" Kettner (November 20, 1864 – November 11, 1930) was a US Democratic politician from San Diego, California. He served four terms in Congress from 1913 through 1921 and is credited with bringing many U.S. Navy facilities to San Diego. Biography Kettner was born in 1864 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to John F. and Frederika Kettner, both German immigrants. His parents moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1873. His father died when he was 13, so he had to leave school to work, first as a bell boy, then he drove a dray horse. He came to San Diego when he was 21, in the middle of an economic boom in the late 1880s, and worked various odd jobs around the state. In 1893 he married Ida B. Griffs in Visalia, California and went into the real estate and insurance business there. The couple divorced in 1904. Balboa Park (San Diego)
Balboa Park is a historic urban cultural park in San Diego, California, United States. In addition to open space areas, natural vegetation zones, green belts, gardens, and walking paths, it contains museums, several theaters, and the San Diego Zoo. There are also many recreational facilities and several gift shops and restaurants within the boundaries of the park. Placed in reserve in 1835, the park's site is one of the oldest in the United States dedicated to public recreational use. Balboa Park is managed and maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of San Diego. George Marston (California Politician)
George White Marston (October 22, 1850 May 31, 1946) was an American politician, department store owner, and philanthropist. Marston was involved with establishing Balboa Park, the San Diego Public Library System, and San Diego Presidio Park. His contributions to San Diego earned him the affectionate title of "San Diego's First Citizen." Early life and career Marston was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. As a boy, Marston learned to ice skate, which he continued to enjoy throughout his life. His father had a chronic respiratory ailment and wanted to live in a better climate for his health, so the family moved to San Diego in 1870. Marston was initially a clerk in the Horton House Hotel, then entered the mercantile business as a bookkeeper with the firm of Aaron Pauly & Sons general merchandise store and warehouse merchants.
