Charles Byrnes
Charles Joseph Byrnes (1835 – 22 October 1917) was an Australian politician. He was born in Parramatta, the youngest son of Ruth Barber and James Byrnes, a storekeeper and early New South Wales politician. His uncle William was also a member of the Legislative Council. The younger Byrnes was articled to a solicitor, but chose business over law and took over the family wool mill at Parramatta. He also owned a tweed mill at Granville, and was a long-serving alderman and mayor of Parramatta. James Byrnes (Australian Politician)
James Byrnes (15 January 1806 – 17 September 1886) was an Australian politician. He was an elected member of the New South Wales Legislative Council in 1851 and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for two periods totalling ten years between 1857 and 1872. William Byrnes
William Byrnes (2 June 1809 – 25 October 1891) was an Australian politician. He was born in Parramatta to James and Frances Byrnes; his father was a member of the New South Wales Corps. He was an apprentice saddler before pioneering steam ferries on the Parramatta River with his brother James. On 6 December 1834 he married Ann Oakes, daughter of MLC Francis Oakes and they had fourteen children. In the 1840s the brothers ran a flour mill, and they continued to run mills and stores thereafter. Byrnes was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from August 1858 to May 1861 and from September 1861 until his death at Parramatta in October 1891. His brother James was a member of the NSW Parliament at various times between 1850 and 1872. Hugh Taylor (Australian Politician)
Hugh Taylor (19 March 1823 – 13 December 1897) was an Australian politician. He was born at Parramatta to ex-convict Hugh Taylor, then a general agent, and Elizabeth O'Farrel. He was educated at The King's School, Parramatta, and became a butcher, although he also worked as a journalist for the '' Sydney Morning Herald''. On 29 December 1846, he married Frances Eliza Connor, with whom he had six children; he converted to Roman Catholicism on his marriage. In 1865 he became a Parramatta alderman, a position he held until his death in 1897; he was mayor from 1871 to 1873. William Alexander Long (28 July 1839 – 30 November 1915) was a race-horse owner and politician in New South Wales, Colonial Treasurer in 1877. Long was born in Sydney, New South Wales, the son of William Long (1797–1876) and his second wife. Long was educated privately and studied law in England, he was called to the Bar of the Inner Temple on 11 June 1862 and admitted to the New South Wales Bar on 22 December 1862. Long represented Central Cumberland from 30 June 1875 to 12 October 1877, and Parramatta from 27 October 1877 to 9 November 1880, in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. He was nominated to the New South Wales Legislative Council on 8 September 1885, a position he held until 17 March 1900.
