Charles Birkin
Sir Charles Lloyd Birkin, 5th Baronet (24 September 1907 – 1985) was an English writer of horror short stories and the editor of the ''Creeps Library'' of anthologies. Typically working under the pseudonym Charles Lloyd, Birkin's tales tended towards the conte cruels rather than supernatural fiction, although he did write some ghost stories. Quotes regarding Biography Birkin was the son of Colonel Charles Wilfred Birkin and Claire Howe, the daughter of Alexander Howe. Freda Dudley Ward was a sister. He was educated at Eton College and was later employed by the publisher Philip Allan to anonymously edit the ''Creeps'' horror story anthologies, the first which appeared in 1932.Ashley 1977, p. 35. Authors anthologized in the ''Creeps'' series included H. Russell Wakefield, Tod Robbins, H. D. Everett and Elliott O'Donnell. ''Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol'' (: "The Theatre of the Great Puppet")—known as the Grand Guignol–was a theatre in the Quartier Pigalle, Pigalle district of Paris (7, cité Chaptal). From its opening in 1897 until its closing in 1962, it specialised in naturalistic Horror and terror, horror shows. John Birkin
Sir John Christian William Birkin, 6th Baronet (born 2 July 1953) is a British director and producer. Biography John Birkin is a television director and production manager, known for ''Mr. Bean'' (1990), ''Chef!'' (1993), and '' Victoria Wood with All the Trimmings'' (2000), among other television shows. Birkin's father was the Gothic novelist Charles Birkin and his mother was the Australia-born actress Janet Johnson. Birkin Baronets
The Birkin Baronetcy, of Ruddington Grange in the parish of Ruddington in the County of Nottingham, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 25 July 1905 for the businessman Thomas Isaac Birkin. He was a lace manufacturer, director of the Great Northern Railway and the Mercantile Steamship Company. His grandson, the 3rd Baronet, was a racing driver. He died without male issue and was succeeded by his uncle, the fourth Baronet. his sons pre-deceased him and he was succeeded by his nephew, the fifth Baronet. As of 2007 the title is held by the latter's son, the sixth Baronet, who succeeded in 1985. Panther Books
Panther Books Ltd was a British publishing house especially active in the 1950s and 1960s, specialising in paperback fiction. It was established in May 1952 by Hamilton's Ltd and titles carried the line "A Panther Book" or "Panther Science Fiction" on the cover. Science fiction was one of its major genres; its titles included Ray Bradbury's ''The Golden Apples of the Sun'' and Asimov's Foundation Trilogy. In 1954, Gordon Landsborough was employed as editor and started improving the quality of the imprint. Instead of publishing original genre novels in paperback and hardback, Panther Books became a reprint publisher, doing paperback reprints of best-selling hardcover novels from other publishers. The quality of the cover art was improved and the list expanded to include non-fiction titles and fiction titles by internationally known, best-selling writers. ''Harry Enfield & Chums'' (originally titled ''Harry Enfield's Television Programme'') is a British sketch show starring Harry Enfield, Paul Whitehouse and Kathy Burke. It first broadcast on BBC2 in 1990 in the 9 pm slot on Thursday nights which became the traditional time for alternative comedy on television.
