Cook County
Cook County is the most populous county in the U.S. state of Illinois and the second-most-populous county in the United States, after Los Angeles County, California. More than 40% of all residents of Illinois live within Cook County. As of 2020, the population was 5,275,541. Edwin Eisendrath
Edwin Eisendrath (born February 3, 1958) is former CEO of the ''Chicago Sun-Times'' and former Chicago City Council, alderman of the 43rd ward of Chicago (Lincoln Park, Chicago, Lincoln Park area). Biography Edwin Eisendrath III was born into a American Jews, Jewish family, the son of Edwin W. Eisendrath Jr. and Susan Rosenberg. His father was an attorney and his mother came from a powerful West Side political family. His parents divorced when he was a child, in 1970, and his mother married Lewis Manilow. He was raised in the East Lake View neighborhood of Chicago. After graduating from Harvard University, he taught in public schools in both Appalacia and later Chicago's Wicker Park, Chicago, Wicker Park neighborhood. In 1983, he earned a master of arts in teaching at National Louis University. At age 29, he ran for alderman in Chicago's 43rd ward to succeed the retiring Martin J. Oberman. Chicago City Council
The Chicago City Council is the legislative branch of the government of the City of Chicago in Illinois. It consists of 50 alderpersons elected from 50 wards to serve four-year terms. The council is gaveled into session regularly, usually monthly, to consider ordinances, orders, and resolutions whose subject matter includes code changes, utilities, taxes, and many other issues. The Chicago City Council Chambers are located in Chicago City Hall, as are the downtown offices of the individual alderpersons and staff. The presiding officer of the council is the Mayor of Chicago. The secretary is the City Clerk of Chicago. Both positions are city-wide elected offices. In the absence of the mayor, an alderperson elected to the position of President Pro Tempore serves as the presiding officer. Vi Daley was an alderman in the Chicago City Council, representing Chicago's 43rd ward. The 43rd ward includes much of the Lincoln Park and a small portions of the Near North Side Community areas.
