Charles Beary Landis
Charles Beary Landis (July 9, 1858 – April 24, 1922) was an American newspaperman and politician who served six terms as a U.S. Representative from Indiana from 1897 to 1909. Early life and career He was a brother of both Congressman Frederick Landis and of Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis. Born in Millville, Ohio, Landis attended the public schools of Logansport, Indiana, and graduated from Wabash College, Crawfordsville, Indiana, in 1883, where he was a member of Tau chapter of Beta Theta Pi. He was editor of the ''Logansport Journal'' 1883-1887 (which later became part of the ''Pharos-Tribune'') and at the time of his nomination for Congress was editor of the Delphi (Indiana) Journal. He served as president of the Indiana Republican Editorial Association in 1894 and 1895. Delphi () is a city in and the county seat of Carroll County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. Located twenty minutes northeast of Lafayette, it is part of the Lafayette, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,893 at the 2010 census. History Delphi was platted in 1828. Frank Hanly
James Franklin Hanly (April 4, 1863August 1, 1920) was an American politician who served as a congressman from Indiana from 1895 until 1897, and was the 26th governor of Indiana from 1905 to 1909. He was the founder of Hanly's Flying Squadron, which advocated prohibition nationally and played an important role in arousing public support for prohibition. During his term as governor he successfully advocated the passage of a local-option liquor law, which led the majority of Indiana's counties to ban liquor sales. His other achievements included banning gambling, fighting political corruption, and adjusting state agencies to operate on a non-partisan basis. He left office and the Republican Party and became an active and vocal prohibitionist. He was an unsuccessful Prohibition Party candidate for President of the United States in the 1916 election.
