Charles B. Garrigus (June 13, 1914 Benton, Illinois – October 4, 2000) was an American poet and professor who was California Poet Laureate from 1966 to 2000. He also served in the California State Assembly for 33rd district from 1959 to 1967. Benton, Illinois
Benton is a city in and the county seat of Franklin County, Illinois. The population was 6,709 at the 2020 census. History Founding Benton, the county seat of Franklin County, took its name from the prominent senator from Missouri, Thomas Hart Benton (politician), Thomas Hart Benton (1782-1858). The village of Benton was organized in 1841 on of property donated by John Ewing and Walter S. Akin. In 1902 the village became a city, and incorporated under the Mayor-commission government, mayor/commissioner form of government. Franklin County was platted in 1818, the year Illinois became a state, at twice its current size. It included the territory that is now Williamson County, Illinois, Williamson County. Reedley College
Reedley College (Reedley or RC) is a public community college in Reedley, California. It is a part of the California Community Colleges system within the State Center Community College District (SCCCD). It is accredited by the WASC Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges. The college offers associate degrees. History Reedley College was founded in May 1926, as Reedley Junior College on the campus of Reedley High School. It became a full community college on July 1, 1946. In 1954, the school district voted to move Reedley College to its own campus and in 1956 it moved to its present location on of what was once a part of the historic Thomas Law Reed Ranch, of which remain in use as farmland. Kingsburg, California
Kingsburg is a city in Fresno County, California. Kingsburg is located southeast of Selma at an elevation of 302 feet (92 m), on the banks of the Kings River. California Poet Laureate
The California Poet Laureate is the poet laureate for the state of California. In 2001, Governor Gray Davis created the official position. Each poet laureate for the State of California is appointed by the Governor of California for a term of two years and must be confirmed by the senate. Previous to Governor Davis' action in creating the position, the title was unofficial and the position was held for life. The program is run by the California Arts Council.
