Charles B. Black
Charles Bradford Black Jr. (June 15, 1921 – December 22, 1992) was an American professional basketball player and a four-time All-American at the University of Kansas. Black was also a decorated war hero. College career (1941–1943, 1945–1947) Born in Arco, Idaho, Black graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1940. Black first attended the University of Wisconsin, as a freshman. studying agriculture, before he moved back to Kansas City. He then played collegiately as a forward for the University of Kansas under Coach Phog Allen. He played from 1941–1943 before enlisting in the military during WWII and returned to play for Kansas from 1945–1947. In his first season, Black led Kansas to a 17–5 season (11.1 points per game) and in his second season (11.3 points), alongside Ray Evans, Black led Kansas to their fourth-consecutive Big Six Conference Championship and a 22–6 record. In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. All-America
The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. The designation is typically used at the collegiate level although, beginning in 1957, high school- athletes in football began being honored with All-America status, which then carried-over to other sports like basketball and cross-country running. Otto Schnellbacher
Otto Ole Schnellbacher (April 15, 1923 – March 10, 2008) was an American football safety and end in the National Football League (NFL) for the New York Giants. He was a twice Pro Bowler. Also a professional basketball player, Schnellbacher played for the Basketball Association of America's Providence Steamrollers and St. Louis Bombers in 1948–49. In college, Schnellbacher was a two-sport star at the University of Kansas, earning him the nickname "the double threat from Sublette". Big Eight Conference
The Big Eight Conference was a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)-affiliated Division I-A college athletic association that sponsored football. It was formed in January 1907 as the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MVIAA) by its charter member schools: the University of Kansas, University of Missouri, University of Nebraska, and Washington University in St. Louis. Ray Evans (halfback)
Raymond Richard Evans (September 22, 1922April 24, 1999) was an American football halfback. He was an All-American in football and a two time All-American in basketball at the University of Kansas and is considered possibly the greatest overall athlete to ever attend KU. In addition to his multi-sport prowess in college, Evans would go on to play professional football and basketball, and was even offered a contract to play baseball for the New York Yankees.
