Marie-François-Denis-Thérésa Le Roy Allarde better known as Francis baron d'Allarde (12 March 1778 – 4 October 1841) was a 19th-century French chansonnier and playwright. Biography The son of the politician , he was a journalist in the United-States (1794-1796) where he was responsible for a column devoted to good manners in a newspaper of Massachusetts. He graduated from University of Cambridge and returned to France in 1797 with the French legation. He began a career in theater with ''Arlequin aux Petites Maisons'', a play which was given at Théâtre des Troubadours . His plays, some of which achieved a great success, signed under many pseudonyms (Francis, M. Sapajou, baron d'Allarde...) were presented on the most important Parisian stages of the 19th century including the Théâtre des Variétés, the Théâtre de la Porte-Saint-Martin, and the Théâtre du Vaudeville. Pierre Carmouche (9 April 1797 - 9 December 1868) was a French playwright and chansonnier. Jean-Toussaint Merle (10 June 1785– 27 February 1852) was a French playwright and journalist. Biography Merle had a good education at the Central School of the department of Hérault before arriving in Paris in 1803. At first an employee at the Ministry of Interior, he soon left the position for military service, and returned to Paris only towards the end of 1808. He then made his debut in literature. His amiable character and easy spirit made him a reputation for indolence which seems in little agreement with the activity of his literary life. He put his name to more than one hundred and twenty plays, almost all of them made in collaboration. The ''comédie en vaudevilles'' () was a theatrical entertainment which began in Paris towards the end of the 17th century, in which comedy was enlivened through lyrics using the melody of popular vaudeville (song), vaudeville songs.Barnes 2001. Evolution The annual fairs of Paris at St. Germain and St. Laurent had developed theatrical variety entertainments, with mixed plays, acrobatics, acrobatic displays, and pantomimes, typically featuring vaudevilles (see Théâtre de la foire). Gradually these features began to invade established theatres. The ''Querelle des Bouffons'' (War of the Clowns), a dispute amongst theatrical factions in Paris in the 1750s, in part reflects the rivalry of this form, as it evolved into ''opéra comique'', with the Italian ''opera buffa''. Nicolas Brazier
Nicolas Brazier (17 February 1783, Paris - 18 February 1838) was a French chansonnier and vaudevillist. Life Son of a boarding school master and author of school manuals, Brazier's education was however strongly neglected due to the French Revolution. At first a jeweller's apprentice, then employed in the "Droits réunis" (the French indirect taxes administration of the time), he showed a talent for verse and was encouraged and guided by Armand Gouffé. Following his first success at the Théâtre des Délassements-Comiques, in 1803, he left his job to devote himself to chansons and to the theatre, following courses at school to fill in the gaps in his education. His witty, spirited and lively chansons often proved popular, though the vulgarity of his style has led to them being forgotten. The Société du Caveau keeps their memory alive. Marie-Emmanuel-Guillaume-Marguerite Théaulon de Lambert (14 August 1787, Aigues-Mortes – 16 November 1841) was a French playwright. A customs inspector, then an inspector of military hospitals, he composed an ''Ode'' on the birth of the King of Rome which brought him thanks from Napoleon himself. In 1814 he sang for the Bourbons and put on his first play, ''Les Clefs de Paris, ou le Dessert d’Henri IV'' (The Keys of Paris, or the Deservings of Henry IV), in their honour.
