Often, "virtual channels" are implemented in digital television, helping users to find a desired channel easily, or easing the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting in general. The practice of assigning virtual channels is most common in those parts of the world where TV stations were colloquially named after the RF channel they were transmitting on ("Channel 6 Springfield"), as it was common in North America during the analogue TV era. The station's studios are located on Riverside Drive West and Crawford Avenue (near the Detroit River) in Downtown Windsor, and its transmitter is located near Concession Road 12 in Essex. Residents of the U.S. city of Detroit, Michigan, also receive CBET over-the-air as well as on cable. History As CKLW-TV By 1953, CBC Television's distribution throughout Canada was growing. The Windsor market, however, was already being served by the Detroit stations across the border. That same year, Western Ontario Broadcasting Company, Ltd., parent company of CKLW radio (800 AM and 93.9 FM, now CIDR-FM), applied for a television license for Windsor. The two outlets share studios with sister radio stations CBK and CBK-FM at the CBC Regina Broadcast Centre at 2440 Broad Street in Downtown Regina; CBKT-DT's transmitter is located near McDonald Street/ Highway 46, just northeast of Regina proper. The station's studios are located in the Cambrian Wellness Centre, in the University Heights neighbourhood, and its transmitter is located near Old Banff Coach Road/ Highway 563 and 85 Street on the city's southwest side. Owned by Télé Inter-Rives, it is part of a twinstick with Noovo affiliate CFTF-DT (channel 29). Both stations share studios on Rue de la Chute and Rue Frontenac in Rivière-du-Loup, while CIMT-DT's transmitter is located near Chemin du Mont Bleu in Picard. History The station was launched on September 17, 1978. The station is part of a rare "triple-stick", owned by Télé Inter-Rives, which also owns CKRT and CFTF.
