Channel 7 Telethon Trust
The Channel Seven Perth Telethon, regionally known simply as Telethon, is an annual telethon established in 1968 by philanthropist James Cruthers, Sir James Cruthers and Brian Treasure, and produced by TVW, a Seven Network-owned television station in Perth, Western Australia. It raises money for over 50 beneficiaries each year including the Perth Children's Hospital, the Telethon Clinical Research Centre and the Telethon Kids Institute. Channel Seven's Perth Telethon is the highest donating telethon (per capita) in the world, and since the first Telethon in 1968 has raised over Australian dollar, A$500 million in total. The Channel 7 Telethon Trust is the charitable trust behind the event and its related fundraising activities. James Cruthers
Sir James Winter Cruthers (20 December 1924 – 13 October 2015) was an Australian media business executive and philanthropist. Early life and career Cruthers was born in 1924 and was educated at Claremont Central State School and Perth Technical College, leaving school at 16. He started work at the '' Daily News'' newspaper in Perth in 1939 and joined the forces in 1940. During the Second World War, he was a RAAF pilot. After the war he became a cadet journalist at the ''Daily News'', and was there when the paper hired Paul Rigby as a cartoonist. GWN7 was an Australian Television broadcasting in Australia, television network serving all of Western Australia outside metropolitan Perth. It launched on 10 March 1967 as ''BTW-3'' in Bunbury, Western Australia, Bunbury. It was an affiliate of the Seven Network and served one of the largest geographic television markets in the world—almost one-third of the continent. The network's name, ''GWN'', is an acronym of Golden West Network, the network's name from 1979 to when the current name was adopted in 2011. In 2021, GWN7's parent company Prime Media Group merged with Seven and the brand was retired in 2022.
