Channel 78
Channel 78 was removed from television use in 1983, but was formerly used by television stations in North America which broadcast on UHF frequencies 854-860 MHz. There was one full-power originating station on this frequency in Canada. CBEFT (Radio-Canada Windsor) first aired on Channel 78 in 1976, moving to channel 54 in 1982. By 1996, the station had become a simple rebroadcaster of CBOFT Ottawa- Hull. Later a CBLFT rebroadcaster, it had been moved to channel 35 due to the reassignment of UHF TV channels 52–69 to mobile telephony in 2009; it remained full-power analogue until closing down (along with all of CBC/Radio Canada's rebroadcasters) in 2012. In the United States, channels 70- 83 had served primarily as a "translator band" containing repeater transmitters to fill gaps in coverage for existing stations. Dark (broadcasting)
In the broadcasting industry, a dark television station or silent radio station is one that has gone off the air for an indefinite period of time. Usually unlike dead air (broadcasting only silence), a station that is dark or silent does not even transmit a carrier signal. U.S. law Transmitter operations According to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), a radio or television station is considered to have gone dark or silent if it is to be off the air for thirty days or longer. Prior to the Telecommunications Act of 1996, a "dark" station was required to surrender its broadcast license to the FCC, leaving it vulnerable to another party applying for it while its current owner was making efforts to get it back on the air. NBC Montana
NBC Montana is a regional network of three television stations in western Montana, United States, affiliated with NBC and owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group. Cities served include Missoula, Kalispell, Butte, and Bozeman. Most station operations, including news production, are based at the Missoula studios of KECI-TV (channel 13); the other main stations are KCFW-TV (channel 9) in Kalispell, KTVM-TV (channel 6) in Butte, and KDBZ-CD (channel 6) in Bozeman. The stations air the same programming, but KCFW and KTVM/KDBZ-CD air their own commercials and legal identifications, and NBC Montana maintains offices in Kalispell and Bozeman. Matador, Texas
Matador is a town in and the county seat of Motley County, Texas, United States. Its population was 607 at the 2010 census. In 1891, it was established by and named for the Matador Ranch. It is located east of Lubbock, Texas. History The Matador Ranch was consolidated in 1882 by a Scottish syndicate, and a post office opened at Matador in 1886. At the end of the 19th century, townspeople freed the community from domination by the Matador Ranch, which was liquidated in 1951, by relocating nonranch families there and electing their own slate of officials. The community was incorporated in 1912 and made the county seat. The state required that a town have at least 20 businesses. Local ranch hands hence established fraudulent, temporary businesses using ranch supplies. The only real business in Matador at the time was a saloon. Digital Television
Digital television (DTV) is the transmission of television signals using digital encoding, in contrast to the earlier analog television technology which used analog signals. Maupin, Oregon
Maupin is a city in Wasco County, Oregon, United States. Located on the Deschutes River, much of the city's economy is related to the river through outdoor activities, such as fishing and rafting. KATU (channel 2) is a television station in Portland, Oregon, United States, affiliated with ABC. It is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group alongside La Grande–licensed Univision affiliate KUNP (channel 16).
