Chanel Branch (born February 6, 1980) is an American politician who represented the 45th legislative district in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2020 to 2023. Governor Larry Hogan appointed Branch to replace Cheryl Glenn after Glenn resigned and pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges. Background Branch was born on February 6, 1980, in Baltimore, Maryland, where she graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. She attended Baltimore City Community College and the TESST College of Technology. In July 2017, Branch's son was murdered in Baltimore City. She lobbied, alongside her father, Delegate Talmadge Branch, for stricter sentences for handgun violations and for $3.6 million to expand Safe Streets, an anti-violence initiative. Maryland House of Delegates District 45 is one of 47 legislative districts in the state of Maryland and is one of the 5 located entirely within Baltimore City. Voters in this district select three delegates every four years to represent them in the Maryland House of Delegates. Baltimore City Council
The Baltimore City Council is the legislative branch that governs the City of Baltimore and its more than 600,000 citizens. It has 14 members elected by district and a president elected at-large; all serve four-year terms. The Council holds regular meetings on alternate Monday evenings on the fourth floor of the Baltimore City Hall. The council has seven standing committees, all of which must have at least three members. The Maryland General Assembly is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Maryland that convenes within the State House in Annapolis. Gun Court
The Gun Court is the branch of the Jamaican judicial system that tries criminal cases involving firearms. The court was established by Parliament in 1974 to combat rising gun violence, and empowered to try suspects ''in camera'', without a jury. The Supreme Court, Circuit Courts, and Resident Magistrate's Courts function as Gun Courts whenever they hear firearms cases. There is also a Western Regional Gun Court in Montego Bay. Those convicted by the Gun Court are imprisoned in a dedicated prison compound at South Camp in Kingston. Until 1999, the Gun Court sessions were also held in the same facility.
