Chandler Egan
Henry Chandler Egan (August 21, 1884 – April 5, 1936) was an American amateur golfer and golf course architect of the early 20th century. Early life and college Egan was born in Chicago, Illinois, which at the end of the 19th century was the epicenter of golf in the United States — the first 18-hole golf course in the country, the Chicago Golf Club, in Wheaton, was built there in 1895. Egan played his first game of golf in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin at the age of 12. He attended secondary school at the Rugby School in Kenilworth, and was a star football player on its team. The school did not have a golf team, so Chandler developed his golf game at his father's club, Exmoor Country Club. He was accepted to Harvard University, where he soon became the captain of the college golf team. Walter Egan (golfer)
Walter Eugene Egan (June 2, 1881 – September 12, 1971) was an American golfer who competed in the late 1890s and early 1900s. Egan came to prominence in his teens when he was playing at Onwentsia Club and attending University School on the north side of Chicago. He helped University win the Preparatory League championship in 1899. The same year he astonished his elders by taking second to David Forgan in the Western Amateur. In 1902 he again took second in the event, this time to his cousin, Chandler Egan, H. Chandler Egan, but finally won the brass ring in 1903 when he got revenge on Chandler by beating him by one stroke. Egan was runner-up three times, including twice to his cousin Chandler. The Union League Golf And Country Club
The Union League Golf and Country Club of San Francisco (now called Green Hills Country Club) was constructed in 1929 (opening in 1930) in Millbrae, California, United States. It was one of the most ambitious golf and country club projects of its era in Northern California. It was conceived in the prosperous time that proceeded the Great Depression by a prominent group of San Francisco businessmen (primarily Union League of San Francisco club members) who would spare no expense during the design-phase of the project. The golf course was designed by Alister MacKenzie who considered it one of the top three courses on the West Coast. The unforeseen economic downturn of the Great Depression caused the club to become financially insolvent and in 1933 it was reorganized as Millbrae Country Club. Pebble Beach Golf Links is a public golf course on the west coast of the United States, located in Pebble Beach, California. Alister MacKenzie
Alister MacKenzie (30 August 1870 – 6 January 1934) was a golf course architect whose course designs span four continents. Originally trained as a surgeon, MacKenzie served as a civilian physician with the British Army during the Boer War where he first became aware of the principles of camouflage. During the First World War, MacKenzie made his own significant contributions to military camouflage, which he saw as closely related to golf course design. He is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. He designed more than 50 golf courses including three that remain in the 2022 top 10 golf courses in the world: They include Augusta National Golf Club and Cypress Point Club in the US, and Royal Melbourne Golf Club (West Course) in Australia. Golf Course Design
A golf course is the grounds on which the sport of golf is played. It consists of a series of holes, each consisting of a tee box, a fairway, the rough and other hazards, and a green with a cylindrical hole in the ground, known as a "cup". The cup holds a flagstick, known as a "pin". A standard round of golf consists of 18 holes, and as such most courses contain 18 distinct holes; however, there are many 9-hole courses and some that have holes with shared fairways or greens. There are also courses with a non-standard number of holes, such as 12 or 14. The vast majority of golf courses have holes of varying length and difficulties that are assigned a standard score, known as par, that a proficient player should be able to achieve; this is usually three, four or five strokes. Walker Cup
The Walker Cup is a golf trophy contested in odd-numbered years by leading male amateur golfers in two teams: United States, and Great Britain and Ireland. The official name is the Walker Cup Match (not "Matches" as in Ryder Cup Matches). It is organised by The R&A and the United States Golf Association (USGA). In 1921 the Royal Liverpool Golf Club hosted an unofficial contest which was followed by official annual contests from 1922 through 1924. From 1925 they became biennial, held on even-number years. After World War II they switched to odd-numbered years. They are held alternately in the U.S., and Ireland or Britain. The California Amateur Championship or California Amateur is a golf championship held in California for the state's top amateur golfers. The tournament is run by the California Golf Association. Jack Neville is an English born rugby union player who plays for Nottingham Rugby in the RFU Championship. He plays internationally for Hong Kong. Career Neville played rugby for Cardiff University while studying a bachelor's degree in Science, Business/Managerial and Economics. During his time at Cardiff University Neville played for his home town club Darlington Mowden Park, who at the time were in National Two North. In 2014 Neville joined Hong Kong Premiership side Kowloon RFC, intern joining the HKRU elite rugby programme. After a period of time with the Hong Kong Sevens team, he joined the South China Tigers squad for the inaugural Global Rapid Rugby season, making 2 appearances at the back end of the season, scoring on debut. Medford, Oregon
Medford is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County, Oregon, in the United States. As of the 2020 United States Census on April 1, 2020, the city had a total population of 85,824 and a metropolitan area population of 223,259, making the Medford MSA the fourth largest metro area in Oregon.
