Chandi Prasad Mohanty
Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty is a retired General Officer in the Indian Army. He was the 42nd Vice Chief of the Army Staff and assumed office on 1 February 2021 following the superannuation of Satinder Kumar Saini. He was previously the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Southern Command, assuming command on 30 January 2020. He was trained at RIMC Dehradun. Early life and education Mohanty was born to Jitendra K. Mohanty, a civil servant, and Sarada Mohanty, a professor of Odia at S. V. M. College. Following his education at Bagashai U. P. School, he joined the Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun. He subsequently entered the National Defence Academy (NDA). He holds an M. Phil and a master's in management and has conducted extensive studies of China, South Asia and northeastern India. He is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. National Defence Academy (India)
The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the joint defence service training institute of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services i.e. the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force train together before they go on to respective service academy for further pre-commission training. The NDA is located in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. It is the first tri-service academy in the world. The alumni of NDA include 3 Param Vir Chakra recipients and 12 Ashoka Chakra recipients. NDA has also produced 27 service Chiefs of Staff till date. The current Chiefs of Staff of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force are all NDA alumni from the same course. Sena Medal
The Sena Medal is awarded to members of the Indian army, of all ranks, "for such individual acts of exceptional devotion to duty or courage as have special significance for the Army." Awards may be made posthumously and a bar is authorized for subsequent awards of the Sena Medal. It can be awarded for gallantry or it can also be for distinguished service carried out by any soldier, not in the face of the enemy. Therefore, the Sena Medal also serves as a sort of general commendation medal for the Indian Army. From 1 February 1999, the central government set a monthly stipend of Rs. 250 for recipients of the award when it is awarded for bravery. It has since been revised to Rs. 2000.
