''Chaand Raat'' (, , ur, , lit=Night of the moon) is a South Asia location, used for the eve of the Muslim festival of Eid ul-Fitr; it can also mean a night with a new moon for the new Islamic month Shawwal. Chaand Raat is a time of celebration when families and friends gather in open areas at the end of the last day of Ramadan to spot the new moon, which signals the arrival of the Islamic month of Shawwal and the day of Eid. Once the moon is sighted, people wish each other ''Chaand Raat Mubarak'' ("Have a blessed night of the new moon") or ''Eid Mubarak'' ("Blessings of the Eid day"). ''Chand'' () is a 1959 Indian Hindi-language film starring Meena Kumari, Balraj Sahni, Pandari Bai and Manoj Kumar in lead roles. The film is directed by Lekhraj Bhakri and its music is given by Hemant Kumar. Plot Although the film was released in 1959, its story is set in the early 1950s before the introduction of The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 which opposes polygamy. Mr. Kapoor ( Balraj Sahni), a rich and successful man, is happily married to his wife Kamla (Pandari Bai). The only grief in their lives is the absence of a legal heir as Kamla is unable to conceive. The city is the capital of Pasrur Tehsil and is administratively subdivided into 26 wards of municipal committee Pasrur. It is located at 32°16'0N 74°40'0E with an altitude of 238 metres (784 feet). Nearby are the remains of a bridge built by Shah Daula. British era During British rule, Pasrur became the headquarters of Pasrur Tehsil. The town (which lies 18 miles south of the district capital Sialkot) lies on the Sialkot to Amritsar road. The population in 1901 was 8,335. The trade of Pasrur has become very decayed, partly through the opening of the North-Western Railway and partly on account of the octroi duties which have diverted trade to the neighboring village of Saukin Wind.
