Chance (Act Song)
"Chance" is the third single by Act, taken from the only Act album ''Laughter, Tears and Rage''. The single was released by ZTT Records in February 1988 but was quickly withdrawn. This may have something to do with the 12" mix containing an unauthorised sample of ABBA's "Take a Chance on Me". ZTT promptly released the band's fourth single " I Can't Escape from You" a month later. The non-abum B-side "Winner 88" includes in lyrics the lines "The winner takes it all" and "Money, money, money" – both big ABBA hits. The album ''Laughter, Tears and Rage'' was reissued in 2004 as an expanded 3-CD box set, containing practically everything the group released plus a wealth of previously unreleased tracks or versions, but the 12" mix of "Chance" (titled "12/1 Chance") with ABBA samples isn't included. Act (band)
Act were a short-lived synth-pop group signed to ZTT Records in the late 1980s, and comprising Scottish musician Thomas Leer and German ex-Propaganda vocalist Claudia Brücken. Besides synthpop and disco, the group were also influenced by psychedelic rock and musical theatre. Lyrically, their songs tended to be concerned with decadence and moral bankruptcy. Money, Money, Money
"Money, Money, Money" is a song recorded by Swedish pop group ABBA, written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus with Anni-Frid Lyngstad singing lead vocals. It was released on 1 November 1976, as the second single from their fourth album, '' Arrival'' (1976). The B-side, "Crazy World", was recorded in 1974 during the sessions for the album ''ABBA''. The song (originally titled "Gypsy Girl") is sung from the viewpoint of a woman who, despite hard work, can barely keep her finances in surplus, and therefore desires a well-off man. ABBA perform parts of "Money, Money, Money" live in the 1977 film '' ABBA: The Movie''. In the popular musical, ''Mamma Mia!'', the song is sung by the character of Donna as she explains how hard she has to work to keep the taverna in order and her dreams of a better life. Claudia Brücken
Claudia Brücken (born 7 December 1963) is a German singer and songwriter. She is best known as the lead vocalist of the synth-pop band Propaganda. In 1996, Brücken started working with Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark co-founder Paul Humphreys, first without a name, and from 2004 as Onetwo. In March 2013, Brücken and Humphreys ceased working and living together, and she has subsequently returned to pursuing her solo career. Early career At age 14, Brücken joined her first band, Haarsträubend. Her second band was the all-female ''The Tripolinas'' together with Susanne Freytag, who also became a member of the band Propaganda. Propaganda In 1983, Brücken joined the German band Propaganda and relocated to London when they signed with ZTT Records. Thomas Leer (born Thomas Wishart, 1953, Port Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish musician. He has released a number of albums and singles as a solo artist, and was also one half (the other being Claudia Brücken) of the 1980s electropop band Act. ''Fever Pitch'' is a 1985 American drama film written and directed by Richard Brooks and starring Ryan O'Neal, Giancarlo Giannini, Chad Everett, John Saxon, and Catherine Hicks. The film marked Brooks's final film before his death in 1992. The original score was composed by Thomas Dolby. "The Winner Takes It All" is a song recorded by Swedish pop group ABBA. Released as the first single from the group's seventh studio album, '' Super Trouper'' (1980), it is a ballad in the key of G-flat major, reflecting on the end of a relationship. The single's B-side was the non-album track " Elaine". The song peaked at No.1 in several countries, including the UK, where it became their eighth chart-topper. Laughter, Tears And Rage
''Laughter, Tears and Rage'' was the sole album produced by Act - the short musical collaboration between Thomas Leer and ex-Propaganda vocalist Claudia Brücken. Originally scheduled to be titled ''Name Dropping: Songs for Young Sinners'' it was released , by ZTT Records. The album was deleted by ZTT in the early 90s. It was eventually reissued on CD in 2004, as a one disc album and as a three disc box set entitled ''Laughter, Tears and Rage - The Anthology''. Like most ZTT releases, the LP and CD releases differed quite a lot in track listing. The LP and cassette were both released as 12 tracks, while the CD was 14. However, a number of tracks were exclusive to each format. "Short Story" and "Theme from Laughter" were LP only, while "Poison" and "Bloodrush" were issued only on CD and cassette, and "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" and "The 3rd Planet" were CD only.
