Chan Meng Kam
Chan Meng Kam (; born 9 November 1962 in Ludongcun, Dongshi, Jinjiang, Fujian, China) is a member of the Legislative Assembly of Macau. Chan Meng Kam is a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, President of the Macau Paralympic Committee, Chairman of City University of Macau and Huaqiao University. Personal life Chan arrived in Macau from mainland China when he was 17 years old. Despite the lack of education, he establishes himself as one of the predominant figure in Macau society. Chan made his fortunes during Macau's economic growth in the early 1990, first as a factory worker. In 1990, Chan set up Golden Dragon Group Company Limited and later become the shareholder of San Miu Supermarket Limited. While he started his conglomerate with a rented casino VIP room from Stanley Ho, Chan's business empire later included supermarket, hotel and the trading of electrical appliances. Huaqiao University
Huaqiao University (; Acronym: HQU) is a national university located in Xiamen and Quanzhou, Fujian province, China. Huaqiao University was founded in 1960, with support from the late Chinese premier and historical figure Zhou Enlai, for students of overseas Chinese backgrounds (Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Singapore) to pursue tertiary education in their ancestral homelands. Cantonese People
The Cantonese people () or Yue people (), are a Yue-speaking Han Chinese subgroup originating from or residing in the provinces of Guangdong and Guangxi (collectively known as Liangguang), in Southern Mainland China. Although more accurately, "Cantonese" refers only to Han Chinese with roots from Guangzhou and its satellite cities and towns, rather than simply and generally referring to the people of the Liangguang region. Historically centered and predominant in the Pearl River Basin shared between Guangdong and Guangxi, the Cantonese people are also responsible for establishing their native language's usage in Hong Kong and Macau during their 19th century migrations within the times of the British and Portuguese colonial eras respectively. 2013 Macanese Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Macau on 15 September 2013 according to the provisions of the Basic Law of Macau. This election was the first of its kind succeeding the reform of the Legislative Assembly that created four new seats; two new geographical constituency seats and two new functional constituency seats. Out of a total of 33 seats, 14 were elected by universal suffrage under the highest averages method, while 12 were voted on from the Functional constituency, and 7 from nomination by the Chief Executive. 2009 Macanese Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Macau on 20 September 2009. The official campaign began on 5 September, and several candidates received warnings from the Electoral Affairs Commission for having begun campaign activities beforehand. As in 2005, there are 29 seats, only 12 of which are elected by universal suffrage under the highest averages method. The rest are "elected" by the functional "constituencies" or appointed by the Chief Executive. 2005 Macanese Legislative Election
Elections for the Legislative Assembly of Macau were held in Macau on September 25, 2005. Election method Twelve candidates are elected directly using the highest averages method on party lists with divisors of 1,2,4,8 etc. There are 18 party lists, the highest ever, with a total of 125 candidates, also the highest ever. 5 of the lists are related to gambling. 10 candidates are elected by the functional constituencies. The seats are distributed like the directly elected seats. There is one list for each category. Stanley Ho Hung-sun (; 25 November 192126 May 2020) was a Hong Kong-Macau billionaire businessman. His original patrilineal surname was Bosman, which was later sinicized to 何 (Ho). He was the founder and chairman of SJM Holdings, which owns nineteen casinos in Macau including the Grand Lisboa. Ho was nicknamed variously ''Godfather'' and ''King of Gambling'', reflecting the government-granted monopoly he held on the Macau gambling industry for 40 years.
