Champlain Trail Lakes
The Champlain Trail Lakes are a group of lakes on the southern point of Whitewater Region in Ontario. They lie in more or less a straight line and are named for the fact that explorer Samuel de Champlain used them to portage around the Chenaux Rapids while exploring the Ottawa River. Coldingham, Catharine and Garden Lake all drain into Browns Bay. The rest of the lakes drain into the Muskrat River which flows through each successively. Hotel Champlain
Hotel Champlain is a historic hotel building located in Plattsburgh, New York. It served as William McKinley's "Summer White House". It is now the site of Clinton Community College. Château Champlain
The Montreal Marriott Château Champlain Hotel, commonly known as the Château Champlain, is a historic hotel located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, overlooking Place du Canada, at 1050 De la Gauchetière Street West. History Opened on January 11, 1967, the Château Champlain was constructed by CP Hotels to accommodate the crowds visiting Expo 67. At the time it was the tallest hotel in Canada. Champlain Arsenal was a 19th-century fortification near Vergennes, Vermont. Two buildings, built in 1825, still stand and make up the oldest remaining buildings of the Vermont Industrial School, now a Job Corps center. Champlain II
The steamboat Oakes Ames was built in 1868 by the Napoleon B Proctor Shipyard in Burlington, Vermont for the Rutland Railroad. The 244-foot paddle wheeler was designed to ferry railroad cars from Burlington across Lake Champlain to Plattsburgh, New York. She was named after one of the railroad's directors' Oakes Ames. She successfully trialed on 19 August 1868 and her maiden excursion ran the next day to Willsboro Bay, Plattsburg. Mr. Ames went onward to Montreal for a review of the railroad's assets. In 1874, the ship was renamed and repurposed for passenger service as the ''Champlain II''. The following year, on July 16, 1875, the ship was wrecked when it ran aground after drifting off course while being guided by a pilot under the influence of morphine. A salvage operation shortly afterwards removed much of the superstructure, leaving about a third of the wreck in place. Champlain is a village in Clinton County, New York, United States. The population was 1,101 at the 2010 census. The village is located in the town of Champlain, approximately west of Lake Champlain, and is north of Plattsburgh. History The lake and the village were named in honor of Samuel de Champlain, who first surveyed the area in 1609. It was part of Canada until 1763, and became part of the United States in 1783.
