Championship Field is a soccer-specific stadium on the campus of Seattle University in Seattle, Washington. It is home to the Seattle Redhawks men's and women's soccer teams. The stadium was built in 1994 and has a seated capacity of 650. History The stadium was named "Championship Field" after Seattle won the 1997 NAIA Men's Soccer Championship. The stadium underwent major renovations in 2005 after Seattle won the 2004 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship. Seattle Redhawks Men's Soccer
The Seattle U Redhawks men's soccer program represents the Seattle University in all NCAA Division I men's college soccer competitions. Founded in 1967, the Redhawks compete in the Western Athletic Conference. The Redhawks are coached by Pete Fewing, who has coached the team for 25 years. Seattle U plays their home matches at Championship Field, on the campus of Seattle University. Over the course of the program's history, the Redhawks have played at various levels of collegiate athletics. In 2004 they won the NCAA Div II National Championship. In 2013, Seattle joined as a full-member of the Western Athletic Conference. In their first season as a DI member, the Redhawks qualified for the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament, with their best performance coming in 2015, where they reached the Round of 16. Soccer-specific stadium is a term used mainly in the United States and Canada to refer to a sports stadium either purpose-built or fundamentally redesigned for soccer and whose primary function is to host soccer matches, as opposed to a multi-purpose stadium which is for a variety of sports. Seattle University (SeattleU) is a private Jesuit university in Seattle, Washington. Seattle University is the largest independent university in the Northwestern United States, with over 7,500 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs within eight schools. History In 1891, Adrian Sweere, S.J., took over a small parish school near downtown Seattle at Broadway and Madison. At first, the school was named after the surrounding Immaculate Conception parish and did not offer higher education. Seattle Redhawks
The Seattle Redhawks are the intercollegiate varsity athletic teams of Seattle University of Seattle, Washington. They compete in the NCAA's Division I as a member institution of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). History Between 1950 and 1971, Seattle competed as an NCAA Division I independent, then joined the West Coast Athletic Conference (now West Coast Conference) in 1971. The Chieftains gained national attention in early 1952 when the basketball team defeated the Harlem Globetrotters. Seattle was led by the O'Brien twins, Eddie and Johnny, of South Amboy, New Jersey; Johnny became the first college player to score 1,000 points in a season and both were named All-Americans. NAIA Men's Soccer Championship
The NAIA Men's Soccer Championship is the annual tournament to determine the national champions of NAIA men's collegiate soccer in the United States and Canada. It has been held annually since 1959. The most successful program is Quincy (IL), with 11 NAIA national titles. The current champion is Bethel (IN), which won its first men's national title in 2022. NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship
The NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship is the annual tournament held by the NCAA to determine the top men's Division II college soccer program in the United States. It has been played annually since 1972; prior to then, all teams competed in a single class. The most successful program has been Southern Connecticut State, with six national titles. The current champion are Franklin Pierce, who won their first national title in 2022, defeating CSU Pueblo, 2–0, in the final. Format The Division II tournament is structured around four unbalanced Super Regionals from the eight NCAA regions (Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast, and West).
