The Championnat de France Amateur, also known as the Challenge Jules‒Rimet, was the highest tier of amateur football in France from 1935 to 1971. It was organized by the French Football Federation. History The competition was created in 1932, three years after the formation of the professional national championship now known as the Ligue 1. The aim of the tournament was to crown the best amateur football team in France. The champion received a cup from the president of the French Football Federation, Jules Rimet, where the nickname of the competition Challenge Jules‒Rimet came from. The competition was folded in 1971 in the midst of reform to the football league system in France. The new system after 1971 would bring together professional and amateur leagues in one pyramid. French Division 3 (1971–1993)
The French Division 3 was the third tier in the French football pyramid, after the Division 1 and Division 2, from 1971 to 1993. Although it was succeeded by the Championnat National 2, the Championnat National became the new third division. History In 1971, the Division 3 replaced the previous version of the Championnat de France Amateur. In contrast to the former CFA, the D3 permitted the best amateur clubs to be promoted to the Division 2. It became an "open" league, meaning it was open to professional, semi-professional, and amateur clubs. Ligue 1, officially known as Ligue 1 Uber Eats for sponsorship reasons, is a French professional league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the French football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. Jules Rimet
Jules Rimet (; 14 October 1873 – 16 October 1956) was a French football administrator who was the 3rd President of FIFA, serving from 1921 to 1954. He is FIFA's longest-serving president, in office for 33 years. He also served as the president of the French Football Federation from 1919 to 1942. On Rimet's initiative, the first FIFA World Cup was held in 1930. The Jules Rimet Trophy was named in his honour. He also founded the French football club Red Star Saint-Ouen. Early life Jules Rimet was born in 1873 in the commune of Theuley, in the department of Haute-Saône in eastern France. His father was a grocer, and the family moved to Paris in 1884 when Jules was eleven years old. The French football league system is a series of interconnected leagues for club football in France and Monaco, and includes one Spanish side. At the top two levels of the system is the Ligue de Football Professionnel, which consists of two professional national divisions, Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in the lower division are ''promoted'' to the higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. In some leagues, playoffs or qualifying rounds are also used to determine rankings.
