Chamorro People
The Chamorro people (; also CHamoru) are the indigenous people of the Mariana Islands, politically divided between the United States territory of Guam and the encompassing Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in Micronesia. Today, significant Chamorro populations also exist in several U.S. states, including Hawaii, California, Washington, Texas, Tennessee, Oregon, and Nevada, all of which together are designated as Pacific Islander Americans according to the U.S. Census. According to the 2000 Census, about 64,590 people of Chamorro ancestry live in Guam and another 19,000 live in the Northern Marianas. Another 93,000 live outside the Marianas in Hawaii and the West Coast of the United States. The Chamorros are primarily Austronesian, and many have Filipino ancestry (another Austronesian group). Violeta Chamorro
Violeta Barrios Torres de Chamorro (; 18 October 1929) is a Nicaraguan politician who served as President of Nicaragua from 1990 to 1997. She was the first and, as of 2022, only woman to hold the position of president of Nicaragua. Born into a landed family in southern Nicaragua, Chamorro was partially educated in the United States. After returning to her home country, she married and raised a family. Her husband, Pedro Joaquín Chamorro Cardenal, was a journalist working at his family's newspaper, ''La Prensa'', which he later inherited. As a result of his anti-government stance, he was often jailed or exiled, forcing Chamorro to spend a decade following him abroad or visiting him in jail. When he was assassinated in 1978, Chamorro took over the newspaper. Salvador Pérez Martínez (; born 8 May 1990), known as Salva Chamorro, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a striker. Eusebio Chamorro (born 22 November 1922) was an Argentine football goalkeeper, who played in several Argentine, Brazilian and Colombian top level clubs. Career Born in Rosario, Eusebio Chamorro began his career in Newell's Old Boys in 1945. In December 1950 he joined Boca Juniors to play in a Center American tour. Elena Arellano Chamorro (November 3, 1836; Granada - October 11, 1911; Granada), or better known as "Mother Elena Arellano", was recognized for her selflessness and dedication to women's education in Nicaragua. Biography Elena Arellano Chamorro was born in the city of Granada, Nicaragua on November 3, 1836. She was the daughter of Narciso Arellano del Castillo, who served as Prime Minister of Nicaragua. In 1842, after the death of her father, she made vows of chastity and poverty. As a result of these vows, Arellano took in any impoverished people in need of help into her home. She was beautiful and had a charming personality. As part of her apostolate, she founded ''la Casa de Huerfanas de Artes y Oficios'' (The Orphanage of Arts and Crafts), this center served widows, female victims of stalking, and prostitutes. Delfin Chamorro (December 24, 1863 – August 15, 1931), was a special educator. He was the creator of a method of teaching the Spanish language. Aurora Chamorro i Gual (11 June 1954 – 17 October 2020) was a Spanish swimmer, top in her specialities between 1968 and 1974 in Spain.
