Cortlandt Street (Manhattan)
Cortlandt Street is a west-east street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City. It runs one block from Broadway to Church Street, then continues an additional block as the non-vehicular Cortlandt Way from Church to Greenwich Street. At its eastern end, the street continues as Maiden Lane. The street, which was laid out , has varied in length over time. During the early 20th century it was the site of Radio Row, a small business district specializing in the sale and repair of radios. All except one block was razed in the mid-1960s for the construction of the World Trade Center. After the destruction of the original World Trade Center in the September 11 attacks, Cortlandt Way opened in 2012 as part of the new World Trade Center. The WTC Cortlandt station (signed as World Trade Center on walls and historically known as Cortlandt Street and Cortlandt Street–World Trade Center) is a metro station, station on the IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line of the New York City Subway in Lower Manhattan. The station is located under the intersection of Greenwich Street and Cortlandt Street (Manhattan), Cortlandt Way within the World Trade Center (2001–present), World Trade Center. It is served by the 1 (New York City Subway service), 1 train at all times. The original Cortlandt Street station was built by the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (IRT) and opened in 1918 as part of the Dual Contracts. Cortlandt Street (IRT Ninth Avenue Line)
The Cortlandt Street station was an express station at Greenwich Street on the demolished IRT Ninth Avenue Line in Manhattan, New York City. It was built as a replacement for the original southern terminus at Dey Street. It had three tracks, one island platform and two side platforms. It was served by trains from the IRT Ninth Avenue Line. It closed on June 11, 1940. The next southbound stop for all trains was Rector Street. The next northbound local stop was Barclay Street. The next northbound express stop was Warren Street. The station was located two blocks from Liberty Street Ferry Terminal and Cortland Street Ferry Depot. These were the main ferry terminals for passengers traveling to Communipaw Terminal and Exchange Place Terminal in Jersey City.
