Chambermaid (EP)
''Chambermaid'' is an Extended play, EP by Emilie Autumn, released in 2001 by Seraph Records. Originally intended as a single from her album ''Enchant (album), Enchant'', Autumn has said she considers it to be an EP because she "packed so much material onto it". Most tracks were also subsequently released on different albums; "What If (Blackbird Mix)" appears as "What If (Celtic Mix)" on ''A Bit o' This & That''. "Chambermaid (Decomposition Mix)" is the only track not found anywhere else. Lyrics In an interview, Autumn described the song "Chambermaid" as a "fantastic drama" she made up, saying, "the song is not necessarily about me as I have never been the neglected and venomous woman that personifies the main character, but I have an overactive imagination and can easily conjure any number of spirits for inspiration." Emilie Autumn
Emilie Autumn Liddell (born September 22, 1979) is an American singer-songwriter, poet, author and violinist. Autumn's musical style is described by her as "Fairy Pop", "Fantasy Rock" or "Victoriandustrial". It is influenced by glam rock and from plays, novels, and history, particularly the Victorian era. Performing with her all-female backup dancers The Bloody Crumpets, Autumn incorporates elements of classical music, cabaret, electronica, and glam rock with theatrics, and burlesque. Growing up in Malibu, California, Autumn began learning the violin at the age of four and left regular school five years later with the goal of becoming a world-class violinist; she practiced eight or nine hours a day and read a wide range of literature. Progressing to writing her own music, she studied under various teachers and went to Indiana University, which she left over issues regarding the relationship between classical music and the appearance of the performer. By The Sword (EP)
"By the Sword" is a charity single released by Emilie Autumn in response to the events of September 11, 2001. All proceeds from the sales for the release were donated to AmeriCares and the American Red Cross. The single was released on Autumn's own label, Traitor, which no longer exists. All songs can be found on other releases: "By the Sword" and "I Know It's Over" are featured on '' A Bit o' This & That'', "Castle Down" is found on '' Enchant'', and "Willow" is on ''Laced/Unlaced.'' ''Enchant'' is the debut studio album by Emilie Autumn, originally released on February 26, 2003, by Traitor Records and re-released on August 17, 2007 by Trisol Music Group. The original release also included the Enchant Puzzle. The album was preceded by the EP '' Chambermaid'' in place of a single release. Background and lyrics Autumn has characterized ''Enchant'', much of which was written in her teen years, as a "fantasy rock" concept album, dealing with the supernatural realm and its influence on the real world, as well as "dreams and stories and ghosts and faeries who'll bite your head off if you dare to touch them." The tagline for the album in much of the marketing was "Once Upon a Time Is Now..." John Kander
John Harold Kander (born March 18, 1927) is an American composer, known largely for his work in the musical theater. As part of the songwriting team Kander and Ebb (with lyricist Fred Ebb), Kander wrote the scores for 15 musicals, including ''Cabaret'' (1966) and ''Chicago'' (1975), both of which were later adapted into acclaimed films. He and Ebb also wrote the standard " New York, New York" (also known as "Theme from ''New York, New York''"). Early life John Kander, the second son of Harold and Bernice (Aaron) Kander, was born on March 18, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri. Fred Ebb (April 8, 1928 – September 11, 2004) was an American musical theatre lyricist who had many successful collaborations with composer John Kander. The Kander and Ebb team frequently wrote for such performers as Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera.
