Challenge Early College High School
Challenge Early College High School (also known as Challenge Early College, Challenge High School, or CECHS) is a secondary school on the Houston Community College West Loop Campus in Houston. The school handles grades nine through twelve and is a part of the Houston Independent School District. The school's principal, as of 2011, is Tonya R. Miller. Its motto is "A School of Opportunity." The school does not automatically take in students from the area; students from the area around the school are zoned to Bellaire High School (Houston, Texas), Bellaire High School and Lamar High School (Houston), Lamar High School. Challenge High School has roughly 450 students, with an incoming freshmen class of 125-130 students each year. Early College High School
The Early College High School Initiative in the United States allows students to receive a high school diploma and an associate degree, or up to two years of college credit, by taking a mixture of high school and college classes. This differs from dual enrollment, where students are enrolled in a traditional high school and take college classes, whereas early college students take high school classes in preparation for full college workloads. At early colleges, students also have fewer high school classes because some of their college classes replace their high school classes. Early colleges differ from closely related middle colleges. Houston A+ Challenge, now Texas A+ Challenge, is a not-for-profit public-private partnership based in Houston, Texas. The organization's mission is to serve "as a catalyst for change in the public schools that educate nine of every ten children in the Houston region, teaming with principals and teachers in targeted schools to ensure that every student is prepared for post-secondary success."
