Chalatenango is a municipality located in the Department of Chalatenango, in the north of El Salvador. Its population was founded in Pre-Columbian times by Lenca tribes, but by the end of the 19th century was controlled by the Yaquis, or Pipiles tribes. The name Chalatenango derives from the náhuat words ''chal'' (sand), ''at'' (water or river), and ''tenango'' (valley): thus the name means “valley of water and sands." National Coalition Party (El Salvador)
The National Coalition Party ( es, Partido de Concertación Nacional, PCN) is a nationalist political party in El Salvador. Until 2011 it was known as the National Conciliation Party ( es, Partido de Conciliación Nacional, PCN). It was the most powerful political party in the country during the 1960s and 1970s, and was closely associated with the Salvadoran military. The United Democratic Centre () is a political party in El Salvador. It first contested national elections in 1999 when it nominated Rubén Zamora (who finished third) in the presidential elections. The Christian Democratic Party ( es, Partido Demócrata Cristiano, links=no) is a Christian democratic party in El Salvador. After being officially disbanded by the Supreme Court in 2011, it continued to work under the name of Party of Hope ( es, Partido de la Esperanza), before re-taking its original name in 2012. Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front
The Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front ( es, Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional, FMLN) is a left-wing political party in El Salvador. The FMLN was formed as an umbrella group on 10 October 1980, from five leftist guerrilla organizations; the Fuerzas Populares de Liberación Farabundo Martí (FPL), the People's Revolutionary Army (ERP), the Resistencia Nacional (RN), the Partido Comunista Salvadoreño (PCS) and the Partido Revolucionario de los Trabajadores Centroamericanos (PRTC).
