Chakma Language
Chakma language (; autonym: , ) is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Chakma and Daingnet people. The language has common features with other languages in the region like the Chittagonian, Tanchangya, Arakanese and others. It is spoken by nearly 320,000 people in southeast Bangladesh in Chittagong Hill Tracts, and another 230,000 in India, including 96,972 in Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. It is written using the Chakma script, which is also called Awzhā Pāṭh, sometimes romanised Ojhopath. Literacy in Chakma script is low. Status It is officially recognized by the Government of Tripura in India and also by the Government of Bangladesh. In India, it is also spoken primarily in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) which consists of the Tuichawng constituency of Lawngtlai district in Mizoram and many places in Tripura. Satarupa Sanyal is a Bengali Indian independent or parallel cinema film director, producer, actress, poet and social activist, based in Kolkata, India. Early life She graduated from the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya on Veterinary Science and later enrolled in masters on Veterinary Pathology. She started a cultural, literary little magazine "Aw" while she was a student of under graduate which is still continuing till date. Her daughters Chitrangada Satarupa and Ritabhari Chakraborty are actors. Career She was trained in Hindustani classical music and Rabindra Sangeet and performed for the All India Radio. She acted in films since 1985. Initially she performed for Doordarshan plays and telefilms in lead roles. ''My Bicycle'' ( Chakma: ''Mor Thengari'') is a Bangladeshi indie film directed by Aung Rakhine. It is the country's first Chakma language film. The Bangladesh Film Censor Board blocked the commercial release of the film, which speculators have suggested may be due to the board not speaking Chakma or due to the film showing the army in a negative light. There were no professional actors involved in the production. Plot An indigenous man named Komol who is fired from a job in a town and returns to his hillside native village with only a bicycle. Although his son is happy to have his father back, but he has nothing to give his family except the bicycle. Komol decides to not return to the town for new jobs but tries to secure their livelihood through the cycle. He offers to ferry passengers and goods of villagers from place to place on his cycle and earn. Unfortunately one day an accident occurs, injuring an old man. It has often been a significant film industry since the early 1970s. The dominant style of Bangladeshi cinema is melodramatic cinema, which developed from 1947 to 1990 and characterizes most films to this day.
