Chain Of Lakes (Winter Haven)
The Chain of Lakes is a famous series of lakes in Central Florida. There are two chains of lakes, the northern chain and the southern chain. The northern chain extends across three cities: Winter Haven, Lake Alfred, and Lake Hamilton. It has ten lakes, connected by a series of canals. The ten lakes on the northern chain are Lake Haines, Lake Rochelle, Lake Echo, Lake Conine, Lake Fannie, Lake Smart, Lake Henry, Lake Hamilton, Middle Lake Hamilton, and Little Lake Hamilton. The southern chain is located almost entirely within the city of Winter Haven. It has 16, sometimes 18, lakes connected by a series of canals. Central Florida
Central Florida is a region of the U.S. state of Florida. Different sources give different definitions for the region, but as its name implies it is usually said to comprise the central part of the state, including the Tampa Bay area and the Greater Orlando area, though in recent times the Tampa Bay area has often been described as its own region, with "Central Florida" becoming more synonymous with the Orlando area (most notably, this is what the local news channels in each respective metro area call their region). Lake Hartridge
Lake Hartridge, with somewhat of a figure eight shape, has a surface area of . This lake is on the north side of Winter Haven in Polk County, Florida. Most of the lake's west shore is bordered by residential areas. The northwest shore is bordered by woods. The north shore is bordered woods and clearings. The northeast is bordered by more clearings. The east central and southeast shores are bordered by woods and a few residences. At the very southeast corner is Aldora Park, a small public park. The south shore is bordered by a large church. On the southwest shore is Lake Hartridge Nature Park, a public park. Lake Hartridge has public access at both Lake Hartridge Nature Park and Aldora Park. Lake Summit is a natural freshwater lake in Winter Haven, Florida. It has a surface area and is somewhat oval in shape. It has two small coves on its north side. Lake May, a wedge-shaped lake, is a natural freshwater lake in southwest Winter Haven, Florida. This lake has a surface area. It is bounded on the east and northeast by vacant land, on the northwest by commercial property, on the west and most of the south by vacant land and on the east and southeast by more commercial property. Much of the shore around the lake is lined by swampy areas. Public access is provided to Lake May on the south side at Lions Park. This public park is located on Avenue L Southwest. The park has a wooden elevated nature walk, a fishing dock and a playground. The Lake has no public swimming areas or boat ramps. Lake Winterset
Lake Winterset is a large natural freshwater lake on the south side of Winter Haven, Florida. This lake has a surface area and is round with an oval-shaped cove on its south end. The cove is connected to the main part of the lake by a short, wide channel. This lake is almost entirely surrounded by private residences, most of them in subdivisions, the majority of them gated subdivisions. Just to the north of Lake Winterset is Cypress Gardens Boulevard. About to the west is Lake Eloise; Dollar Lake and Round Lake are just to the southeast. Although this is a large lake there is no public access to the lake shore, since it is surrounded by private property. Therefore, Lake Winterset has no public swimming areas or boat ramps. However, the Chain of Lakes canal system links Lake Winterset to many area lakes. A canal on the west side directly links the lake to Lake Eloise.
