Chain O' Lakes is a census-designated place in the towns of Farmington and Dayton, Waupaca County, Wisconsin, United States. Its population was 981 as of the 2010 census. Before 2010, it was part of the Chain O' Lakes-King CDP. It consists of twenty-two lakes connected by channels, natural openings, and creeks. There are 72 counties in the U.S. State of Wisconsin. The land that eventually became Wisconsin was transferred from British to American control with the 1783 signing of the Treaty of Paris. It was an unorganized part of the Northwest Territory until 1802 when all of the land from St. Louis north to the Canadian border was organized as St. Clair County. When Illinois was admitted to the union in 1818, Wisconsin became part of the Territory of Michigan and divided into two counties: Brown County in the northeast along Lake Michigan and Crawford County in the southwest along the Mississippi River. Waupaca County, Wisconsin
Waupaca County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 51,812. The county seat is Waupaca. The county was created in 1851 and organized in 1853. It is named after the Waupaca River, a Menominee language name meaning 'white sand bottom', 'pale water', or 'tomorrow river'. History Ancient indigenous peoples constructed earthworks that expressed their religious and political concepts. An early European explorer counted 72 such earthen mounds in what is now Waupaca County, many of them in the form of effigy mounds, shaped like "humans, turtles, catfish and others." Area code 920 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for a large area of eastern Wisconsin. It was created on July 26, 1997, in a split from area code 414, which formerly served the entire eastern third of the state. 920 is scheduled to be overlaid with area code 274 on May 5, 2023. In 2008, service providers recognized the need for a second area code for northeastern Wisconsin, leading the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to approve an overlay plan with new area code 274.
