This is a list of high school athletic conferences in the Northeast Region of Ohio, as defined by the OHSAA. Because the names of localities and their corresponding high schools do not always match and because there is often a possibility of ambiguity with respect to either the name of a locality or the name of a high school, the following table gives both in every case, with the locality name first, in plain type, and the high school name second in boldface type. Buchtel High School
John R. Buchtel Community Learning Center, formerly known as John R. Buchtel High School and often referred to as Buchtel High School or Buchtel CLC, is a public high school in Akron, Ohio, United States, serving grades 7–12. It is one of seven high schools in the Akron Public Schools. As of 2012, the school has an enrollment of 764 students. History Buchtel High School opened in 1931 and is named after Akron industrialist and philanthropist John R. Buchtel, who helped to organize and finance a number of early Akron firms, including the Goodrich Corporation. Buchtel is best known for his role in the establishment of Buchtel College, which later became the University of Akron. Buchtel and his wife contributed more than $500,000 to the college over the course of his life. Northeastern Buckeye Conference
The Northeastern Buckeye Conference (NBC), was an OHSAA high school athletic conference that comprised eight high schools in Northeast Ohio. Final members Former members League history *The NBC was established in September 1988 and began league play in the fall of 1989. The six founding members were Carrollton, Dover, Marlington, Minerva, Northwest, and West Branch. East High School is a public high school in Youngstown, Ohio, United States. It is one of four secondary schools in the Youngstown City School District. Athletic teams compete as the East Golden Bears in the Ohio High School Athletic Association as a member of the Steel Valley Conference. History The original East High School was open from 1925 to 1998, when it was converted to a middle school. The middle school closed following the 2006 winter quarter. A new building reopened as a high school in 2007, following the closing and consolidation of Rayen High School and Woodrow Wilson High School. In its first incarnation, East's athletic teams were known as the Sunrisers, from 1925 to 1949. In 1950, the mascot was changed to the Golden Bears. Edgewood Senior High School
Edgewood High School is a public high school in Edgewood, Ohio, in Ashtabula Township. It is the sole high school operated by the Buckeye Local School District in Ashtabula County, Ohio. __NOTOC__ Background Before the current Edgewood High School was built, the building now used as Braden Middle School served as the district’s high school. Struthers High School is a public high school in Struthers, Ohio, United States. It is the only secondary school in the Struthers City School District. Athletic teams compete as the Struthers Wildcats in the Ohio High School Athletic Association as a member of the Northeast 8 Athletic Conference. Poland Seminary High School
Poland Seminary High School is a public high school in Poland, Ohio, United States. It is the only secondary school in the Poland Local School District. Athletic teams compete as the Poland Seminary Bulldogs in the Ohio High School Athletic Association as a member of the Northeast 8 Conference History Although the current building was built in 1972, Poland Seminary High School owes its name to an earlier institution, Poland Seminary, which was one of the first private colleges to admit women. Lakeview High School in Cortland, Ohio, is the only high school in the Lakeview School District. Prior to 2010, Lakeview High School taught grades eight through 12; in 2010, the 8th grade was moved to Lakeview Middle School. Since 2009, due to financial issues and the closing of Cortland Elementary School, Lakeview High School again accommodates grades eight to 12. Jefferson Area High School is the only high School in the Jefferson, Ohio area of the United States. The current principal is Tim Fairfield, and the superintendent is John Montanaro. Hubbard High School is a public high school in Hubbard, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Hubbard Exempted Village School District.
