Chaghi District ( bal, ; urd, ), also known as Chaghi District, is the largest Districts of Pakistan, district of Pakistan by area, located in the north west corner of Balochistan (Pakistan), Balochistan, Pakistan. Demographics At the time of the 2017 census the district had a population of 226,517, of which 118,973 were males and 107,537 females. Rural population was 210,252 (92.82%) while the urban population was 16,265 (7.18%). The literacy rate was 36.91% - the male literacy rate was 47.54% while the female literacy rate was 25.16%. 1,209 people in the district were from religious minorities. Chagai Hills
The Chagai Hills is a range of granite hills in the Chagai District in Pakistan's Balochistan province. Location The Chagai Hills lie between 28' 46" to 29' 34" N and 63' 18" to 64' 50" in a desert area in the northernmost part of Chagai District north of Pakistan's Ras Koh Hills and south of Afghanistan's Helmand and Nimruz provinces. Topography The Chagai Hills are granite mountains, which, at their highest point, rise to a height of 2640 m above sea level. They stretch over an area that is approximately 175 km in length and 95 km in width. Climate The Chagai Hills lie in an arid zone, which is outside the main monsoon belt. The region receives an average of 4 inches (102 mm) annually. The temperature is extreme: very hot in summer and very cold in winter. Chagai-I is the code name of five simultaneous underground nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan at 15:15 hrs PKT on 28 May 1998. The tests were performed at Ras Koh Hills in the Chagai District of Balochistan Province. Chagai-I was Pakistan's first public test of nuclear weapons. Its timing was a direct response to India's second nuclear test Pokhran-II, on 11 and 13 May 1998. These tests by Pakistan and India resulted in United Nations Security Council Resolution 1172 and economic sanctions on both states by a number of major powers, particularly the United States and Japan. Chagai-II is the codename assigned to the second atomic test conducted by Pakistan, carried out on 30 May 1998 in the Kharan Desert in Balochistan Province of Pakistan.
