Chadwick Pictures
Chadwick Pictures was an American film production and distribution company active during the silent and early sound eras. It was originally established in New York by Isaac E. Chadwick (1884 – 1952) in 1920 to release films, but from 1924 also began to produce them.Swartz p.198 In later years the company's independent films were similar to those of other small studios on Poverty Row. Following the introduction of sound, its releases were handled by Monogram Pictures. In 1933 it ceased production entirely. ''Some Pun'kins'' is a 1925 American silent comedy drama film directed by Jerome Storm and starring Charles Ray, Duane Thompson, and George Fawcett. It is also known by the alternative title of ''The Farmer's Boy''. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, in this light rural comedy, Lem Blossom (Ray) falls in love with Mary Griggs (Thompson), already the possessor of a beau in the worldly person of Tom Perkins (Cooley). Mary's pa Josh Griggs (Woodruff), a heavy drinking father, frowns on the romance but Lem persevers. When Lem fails to sell a load of pumpkins, his father (Fawcett) in desperation turns to bootlegging. Mrs. Blossom (Midgley) and Lem smell the bottles, and Pa Blossom drives Lem away. ''The Bells'' is a 1926 American silent crime film directed by James Young, starring Lionel Barrymore and Boris Karloff. It was based on an 1867 French stage play called ''Le Juif Polonais'' (''The Polish Jew'') by Erckmann-Chatrian. The play was translated to English in 1871 by Leopold Lewis at which time it was retitled '' The Bells''. The English version of the play was performed in the U.S. in the 19th century by Sir Henry Irving. ''Paint and Powder'' is a surviving 1925 American silent drama film produced and released by the Chadwick Pictures. The director of the film was Hunt Stromberg, later be best known as a producer and one of Louis B. Mayer's right hand men over at MGM. The star of this film is Elaine Hammerstein, sister of the music writer and granddaughter of the theatrical impresario, both named Oscar Hammerstein. Plot As described in a film magazine review, a waiter in a cheap cabaret loves the premier dancer of the place, and when a noted theatrical producer visits the cabaret, the waiter by deft manipulation obtains his wallet. He dresses the young woman up and tries to put her on Broadway. Later the waiter is sent up the river. When he is released, he finds the young woman married and successful.
