Chaderghat
Chaderghat is considered one of the busiest areas of Hyderabad city and is located on the banks of Musi River (India), Musi River. Chaderghat Bridge was built during the time of the Nizams and connects major suburbs to the main city. The original name of Chadherghat was "Oliphant Nagar". History The Urdu word ''Chadar'' is used to refer to a white sheet. The locality was so-called after an anicut across the river which formed a ‘Chadar’ or a sheet of water. The famous Chaderghat bridge, or Oliphant Bridge as it was known then, was built in 1831 and named after James Oliphant. Chaderghat was first declared a Municipality in 1886. In 1933, it was merged with Hyderabad Municipality to form Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. Chaderghat is surrounded by Koti, Hyderabad, Koti, Gowliguda, Kachiguda, Dar-ul-Shifa, Darulshifa and Malakpet Localities. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, commonly known as the GHMC is the civic body that oversees Hyderabad, the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana. The Hyderabad Multi-Modal Transport System, commonly abbreviated MMTS, is a suburban rail system in Hyderabad, India. A joint venture of the government of Telangana and the South Central Railway, it is operated by the latter. Koti, Hyderabad
Koti (or Kothi) is a locality in the city of Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It is one of the best-known commercial Old Suburbs of Hyderabad. There are two areas in the vicinity: King Koti and Ram Koti. History The area's name comes from Koti Residency, ''koti'' meaning a mansion, for the lavish mansion built in Victorian and Corinthian style once belonging the British resident James Achilles Kirkpatrick and which was, in 1949, converted into the campus of the Osmania University College for Women. Background Originally the Devdi was owned by a nobleman Kamal Khan, and later by Mir Osman Ali Khan, the Nizam of Hyderabad and Berar. Dar-ul-Shifa
Dar-ul-Shifa is one part of the Old City of Hyderabad, India, named after the 16th-century hospital it once housed. The location was founded in AD 1591, more than 400 years ago, by Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah, the founder of Hyderabad city. Todday it houses a large population of Shia Muslims and comes alive on the days of Muharram and Shia festivals. Most of the households have family members settled abroad, and whose remittances increase the quality of life. In Arabic, and derived from it in Urdu, Turkish and Persian, ''dar al-shifa'' means "house of health", i.e. "hospital".
