Cepheus (Chinese Astronomy)
The modern constellation Cepheus lies across one of the quadrants symbolized by the Black Tortoise of the North (北方玄武, ''Běi Fāng Xuán Wǔ''), and Three Enclosures (三垣, ''Sān Yuán''), that divide the sky in traditional Chinese uranography. The name of the western constellation in modern Chinese is 仙王座 (''xiān wáng zuò''), meaning "the immortal king constellation". Cepheus (constellation)
Cepheus is a constellation in the far northern sky, named after Cepheus, a king of Aethiopia in Greek mythology. It is one of the 48 constellations listed by the second century astronomer Ptolemy, and it remains one of the 88 constellations in the modern times. The constellation's brightest star is Alpha Cephei, with an apparent magnitude of 2.5. Delta Cephei is the prototype of an important class of star known as a Cepheid variable. RW Cephei, an orange hypergiant, together with the red supergiants Mu Cephei, MY Cephei, SW Cephei, VV Cephei, and V354 Cephei are among the largest stars known. In addition, Cepheus also has the hyperluminous quasar S5 0014+81, which hosts an ultramassive black hole in its core, reported at 40 billion solar masses, about 10,000 times more massive than the central black hole of the Milky Way, making this among the most massive black holes currently known. This paper does acknowledge the possibility of an optical illusion that would cause an ...

HD 212710
HD 212710, also known as BD+85 383, SAO 3721, HR 8546, HIP 109693 is a star in Cepheus with an apparent magnitude of 5.258 and a spectral type of B9.5 Vn, indicating that it is a B-type main sequence star, giving it a blue hue. It's about 254 light-years far away from the solar system. It has about 2.61 times the mass of sun, 2.387 times the radius of sun and 53.79 times as luminous as sun. Nomenclature This star doesn't have a Bayer or Flamsteed designation. It has a Chinese name, "Great Tianhuang Emperor" (Chinese: ''天皇大帝'', ''tiānhuángdàdì'') which means "The Emperor of Heaven". It is an independent constellation A constellation is an area on the celestial sphere in which a group of visible stars forms Asterism (astronomy), a perceived pattern or outline, typically representing an animal, mythological subject, or inanimate object. HD 221525
HD 221525 is a single star near the north celestial pole in the constellation Cepheus. At an apparent magnitude of 5.56, it can be seen with the naked eye under dark skies. It is about 30 times fainter than the nearby prominent star Polaris. Based upon parallax measurements, HD 221525 is located at a distance of approximately 317 light years from the Sun, but is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −11 km/s. This object is an A-type star with a stellar classification of A7IV or A8III, suggesting it is an evolving star on the subgiant or giant branch, respectively. It has a relatively high rate of spin, showing a projected rotational velocity of 110 km/s. The star has four times the radius of the Sun and is radiating 44 times the Sun's luminosity from its photosphere at an effective temperature The effective temperature of a body such as a star or planet is the temperature of a black body that would emit the same total amount of electromagnetic ...

HD 216446
HD 216446 is a binary star system in the northern circumpolar constellation of Cepheus. It is faintly visible to the naked eye with a combined apparent visual magnitude of 4.77. The system is located at a distance of approximately 319 light years from the Sun based on parallax, but is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −32 km/s. It is predicted to come to within in around 1.876 million years. The system has an absolute magnitude of −0.14. The magnitude 4.92 primary, designated component A, is an aging giant star with a stellar classification of K3III. The luminosity class of III typically indicates that the star has exhausted the supply of hydrogen at its core, then cooled and expanded off the main sequence. At present it has 25 times the radius of the Sun. The star has a lower abundance of elements other than hydrogen and helium compared to the Sun; what astronomers term the star's metallicity. It is radiating 193 times the luminosity of the Su ...

HD 217382
HD 217382 is a suspected binary star system in the northern circumpolar constellation of Cepheus. It is faintly visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 4.70. The distance to HD 217382 is around 373 light years, as determined from an annual parallax shift of . The system is moving further away with a heliocentric radial velocity of +2.6 km/s. It is a candidate member of the Hyades supercluster and has a peculiar velocity of 9.2 km/s. The visible component of this system is an evolved K-type giant star with a stellar classification of K4 III. It is a periodic variable with a frequency of a cycle every 10.64724 days and an amplitude of 0.0041 in magnitude. The star has an estimated 37 times the radius of the Sun and is radiating 318 times the Sun's luminosity from its enlarged photosphere at an effective temperature The effective temperature of a body such as a star or planet is the temperature of a black body that would em ...
