Cephas Mark
Cephas Barker Mark (July 31, 1872 – January 5, 1942) was a druggist and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Rosetown in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, from 1912 to 1917, as a Liberal. Mark was born in Little Britain, Ontario Little Britain is a compact rural community in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Canada. It is located southwest of Lindsay. Formerly a part of Mariposa Township and Victoria County, Little Britain is now part of Ward 4, City of Kawartha ..., the son of Joseph Mark and Philippa Netherton. He was educated in Lindsay and at the Toronto School of Pharmacy. In 1904, Cephas Barker Mark married Elizabeth Edith Swain, where they resided in Rosetown. Rosetown was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, centered on the community of Rosetown. Created before the 3rd Saskatchewan general election in 1912, this district was dissolved and combined with the Elrose constituency (as Rosetown-Elrose) before the 18th Saskatchewan general election in 1975. It is now part of a revived Rosetown-Elrose constituency. Legislative Assembly Of Saskatchewan
The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting. The Saskatchewan Liberal Party is a liberal political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The party was the provincial affiliate of the Liberal Party of Canada until 2009. Little Britain, Ontario
Little Britain is a compact rural community in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Canada. It is located southwest of Lindsay. Formerly a part of Mariposa Township and Victoria County, Little Britain is now part of Ward 4, City of Kawartha Lakes. History Little Britain was established in 1834 by Harrison Haight who built the first mill in 1837. This mill, which stood until 1910, took nearly the whole countryside to build. At the time, there was no road that led from Little Britain to Oakwood, located to the north. The first church was built in 1850, followed by the Bible Church in 1852. The Post Office came in 1853. Names suggested for the town were ''Margaretville'', after Margaret Metherell, and ''Elm Grove'', proposed by the first postmaster, Robert Fergusson Whiteside. The latter was rejected by the post office because of duplication, so Whiteside named it after his place of origin, Little Britain, Pennsylvania. Lindsay is a community of 22 367 people (2021 Canadian Census, 2021 census) on the Scugog River in the Kawartha Lakes (Ontario), Kawartha Lakes region of south-eastern Ontario, Canada. It is approximately west of Peterborough, Ontario, Peterborough. It is the seat of the Kawartha Lakes, City of Kawartha Lakes (formerly Victoria County, Ontario, Victoria County), and the hub for business and commerce in the region. History The Township of Ops was surveyed in 1825 by Colonel Duncan McDonell, and Lots 20 and 21 in the 5th Concession were reserved for a town site. The same year settlers began to come to the region, and by 1827, the Purdys, an American family, built a dam on the Scugog River at the site of present-day Lindsay. The following year they built a sawmill, and in 1830, a grist mill was constructed. A small village grew up around the mills, and it was known as Purdy's Mills. Rosetown is a town in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, at the junction of provincial Highway 7 and Highway 4, approximately 115 km southwest of Saskatoon. The town's motto, "The Heart of the Wheat Belt" reflects its history of being a farming community. A referendum was held in 2001, spearheaded by resident Teneal Crossman, to change the motto to “The Heart of the Meat Belt” to reflect the booming beef industry.
