Kathmandu University (KU) ( ne, काठमाण्डौ विश्वविद्यालय) is a public autonomous university in Nepal. It is the third oldest university in Nepal, located in Dhulikhel of Kavrepalanchok District, about east of Kathmandu. It was established in 1991 with the motto "Quality Education for Leadership." KU operates through its seven schools, and campuses in Dhulikhel, Patan, Lalitpur and Panchkhal. The university offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses in a variety of fields. History The precursor to the university, Kathmandu Valley Campus (a private campus under the affiliation of Tribhuvan University) was established in 1985, which provided courses in the Intermediate of Science (ISc) level. Daman Nath Dhungana is a Nepali politician and former house speaker. He played an instrumental role during the Nepal peace process between 2003 and 2009. His role as the first house speaker after the establishment of constitutional monarchy, in 1990, is considered exemplary. He returned to active politics in 2017 after a gap of 23 years. Bidya Devi Bhandari (, ; born 19 June 1961) is a Nepali politician who is serving as the second and current president of Nepal. She formerly served as the minister of defence and minister of environment and population. She is the first woman to hold the office in the country.
