Central Nazarene College
The Central Nazarene College was a junior college located in Hamlin, Texas. It closed in 1929. History The school opened as a grammar school, academy, and junior college in 1909 under the leadership of Reverend W. E. Fisher, superintendent of the Abilene and Hamlin districts of the Church of the Nazarene to serve the Hamlin, San Antonio, and New Mexico Districts, with J.E.L. Moore as its first president. Central became the only Nazarene college in Texas when the Nazarene Bible Institute at Pilot Point, Texas was merged with it in 1911.See Southern Nazarene University: History President B.F. Nazarene Bible Institute
Nazarene Bible Institute was a Bible college in Pilot Point, Texas. It has since closed. History The institute was established 1905 in Pilot Point by the Holiness Church of Christ. After the Holiness Church of Christ merged with the Pentecostal Church of the Nazarene in 1908, the school was named Nazarene Bible Institute and became an official institution of the Abilene District Church of the Nazarene. Sanctification (or in its verb form, sanctify) literally means "to set apart for special use or purpose", that is, to make holy or sacred (compare la, sanctus). Therefore, sanctification refers to the state or process of being set apart, i.e. "made holy", as a vessel, full of the Holy Spirit of God. The Holiness movement is a Christian movement that emerged chiefly within 19th-century Methodism, and to a lesser extent other traditions such as Quakerism, Anabaptism, and Restorationism. The movement is historically distinguished by its emphasis on the doctrine of a second work of grace, generally called entire sanctification or Christian perfection and by the belief that the Christian life should be free of sin. Bethany is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States, and a part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1909 by followers of the Church of the Nazarene from Oklahoma City. History Bethany was founded July 28, 1909 as a community where members of the Church of the Nazarene, an evangelical Christian movement that developed from Holiness churches, could practice their religious beliefs without interference by non-members. Southern Nazarene University (SNU) is a private Nazarene university in Bethany, Oklahoma. History The history of the institution is one of various mergers and, therefore, one of differing institutions. While SNU claims its founding date as 1899, that founding date refers to an institution that merged with what is now SNU: Texas Holiness University. As an Oklahoman institution, SNU dates back to 1906, with the founding of the Beulah Heights Academy and Bible School. The roots of the original Southern Nazarene University are primarily in an orphanage of downtown Oklahoma City, founded by Miss Mattie Mallory.
