Central Kansas League
The Central Kansas League was a Class D level baseball league established in 1908, playing through 1912. Member teams were based exclusively in Kansas. The Central Kansas League evolved from and into the Kansas State League. History The original Kansas State League ceased independent operations in 1911, combined with the Central Kansas League. After five seasons of play, the Central Kansas League subsequently changed its name to back to the Kansas State League for the 1913 and 1914 seasons before disestablishing. The league champions in 1909 and 1910 were the Ellsworth Blues. There is an ongoing debate about whether former US President Dwight Eisenhower played professional baseball in 1911 for the Junction City Soldiers prior to attending West Point. Kansas State League
The Kansas State League was a minor league baseball sports league, league in the United States that operated in the state of Kansas in the late 19th century and into the early 20th century. History The Kansas State League was first established in 1887 as a Minor League Baseball "no classification" league and existed for that year only. The league continued again and played in 1895 to 1896 as a "no classification" league. Progressing into the 20th century, the circuit played in 1905–1906 as a Minor league baseball, class D league and this stint lasted two years. The last segment of the league operated as a class D (baseball), class D league from 1909–1911, and 1913–1914. The original Kansas State League ceased operation in 1911, merged with the Central Kansas League, and the 1912 season was played under the CKL name. After the 1911 season, the team ceased operations until 1913, when they reformed and joined the Kansas State League. Manhattan is a city and county seat of Riley County, Kansas, United States, although the city extends into Pottawatomie County. The Lyons Lions were a minor league baseball team based in Lyons, Kansas. From 1909 to 1911, Lyons played as members of the Class D level Kansas State League, Central Kansas League in 1912 and Kansas State League in 1913. Lyons is a city in and the county seat of Rice County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 3,611. History For millennia, the land now known as Kansas was inhabited by Native Americans. The Junction City Soldiers were an American minor league baseball team founded in 1909 in the Central Kansas League. After the 1912 season, the Central Kansas League was renamed the Kansas State League. The team cased operations in 1913. Notable former players include Al Bashang and Jimmy Whelan. There is a longstanding controversy regarding whether former US President Dwight D. Eisenhower played professional baseball for the Soldiers. Junction City is a city in and the county seat of Geary County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 22,932. Fort Riley, a major U.S. Army post, is nearby. History Junction City is so named from its position at the confluence of the Smoky Hill and Republican rivers, which forms the Kansas River. In 1854, Andrew J. The Great Bend Millers were a minor league baseball team based in Great Bend, Kansas. The "Millers" played as members of the Class D level Kansas State League in 1905 and from 1909 to 1911. Great Bend continues play in the Central Kansas League for one season in 1912 before returning to Kansas State League play in 1913 and 1914. Great Bend is a city in and the county seat of Barton County, Kansas, United States. It is named for its location at the point where the course of the Arkansas River bends east then southeast. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 14,733. It is home to Barton Community College. History Prior to American settlement of the area, the site of Great Bend was located in the northern reaches of Kiowa territory. Claimed first by France as part of Louisiana and later acquired by the United States with the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, it lay within the area organized by the U.S. as Kansas Territory in 1854.
