Central ISD
Central Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Pollok, Texas (USA). In addition to Central, a small portion goes into the city of Lufkin. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. History Central Independent School District traces its origin to 1929 via the consolidation of five small schools that were located in the Pollok-Central area: Union, Durant, Pollok, Clawson and Allentown under the name Central Consolidated Common School District. By the 1939-1940 school year, the Cordaway Springs and Simpson schools had also merged with Central Consolidated. List Of Education Service Centers In Texas
In order to serve the numerous individual school districts and charter schools in Texas, Texas Education Agency (TEA) is divided into 20 regions, each containing an Educational Service Center, or ESC. These are also sometimes called Regional Service Centers, or RSC. The ESC's serve as a liaison between the districts and TEA headquarters, providing support to the districts such as conducting workshops and technical assistance. The ESC's do not have any regulatory authority to monitor the districts (this is reserved for TEA headquarters). Pollok, Texas
Pollok is an unincorporated community in Angelina County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 300 in 2000. It is located within the Lufkin, Texas micropolitan area. History The area around Pollok was first settled in the 1880s and was established as a sawmill center when Richard Blair built one on the railroad about six miles northwest of Clawson. The station was known as Bodan and was named after Frenchman Francis D. Bodan, who was the manager of a store on the old smuggler's road some north of Nacogdoches. A post office was established in 1886. There were two general stores and a successful sawmill in 1888. A lumber company called the J.A. Young Lumber Company built a mill larger than the original one and was sold to the Bodan Lumber Company in 1899 for $25,000.
