Goulburn Valley Football Association
The Goulburn Valley Football Association (GVFA) is an Australian rules football competition that was first established in 1888 in the Goulburn Valley of Victoria, Australia, with the foundation clubs being Cobram, Muckatah, Nathalia, Numurkah, Wunghnu and Yarroweyah. This football competition was separate to the Goulburn Valley District Football Association that was formed in 1893, that is still active today and now called the Goulburn Valley Football League. Tallygaroopna Football Netball Club is an Australian rules football club that competes in the Kyabram & District Football League. The club was established in 1904 and initially competed in the Southern Division of the Goulburn Valley Football Association, and has now competed in the Kyabram & District Football League since 1958. Jim Hovey
James Henry Lawrence Hovey (15 August 1922 – 28 March 1995) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Hovey, a back pocket player, arrived at Geelong from Modewarre and debuted in 1946, when he appeared in every game from round seven. He played 17 games in 1947 and gathered all of his five career Brownlow Medal votes that year, then made a further 11 appearances in 1948. Following his career at Geelong, Hovey coached in country Victoria, first at Wimmera Football League club Murtoa in 1949, before being appointed coach of Mooroopna in 1950. Hovey kicked two goals for Shepparton when they defeated Tatura in the 1951 Goulburn Valley Football League grand final. John Landy
John Michael Landy OLY (12 April 1930 – 24 February 2022) was an Australian middle-distance runner and state governor. He was the second man to break the four-minute mile barrier in the mile run and held the world records for the 1500-metre run and the mile race. He was also the 26th Governor of Victoria from 2001 to 2006. Early life and education Landy was born in Melbourne, Victoria, on 12 April 1930, and attended Malvern Memorial Grammar School and Geelong Grammar School. Pat Dalton (6 September 1918 – 15 September 2011) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood and North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Dalton was transferred to Shepparton as a Policeman with the Victorian Police in 1947 and was cleared from Heidelberg to East Shepparton. Eric Roscoe (27 December 1922 – 11 May 2000) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Alfred Deakin
Alfred Deakin (3 August 1856 – 7 October 1919) was an Australian politician who served as the second Prime Minister of Australia. Deakin Reserve is a cricket ground in Shepparton, Victoria, Australia. The first recorded match held on the ground came in 1962 when Victoria Country played the Marylebone Cricket Club. A Youth Test match was held in December 1986 when Australia Under-19s played Indian Under-19s. Wunghnu Football Club
The Wunghnu Football Club, nicknamed the Magpies, was an Australian rules football club in the small Goulburn Valley town of Wunghnu, Victoria, Australia. History It was playing in the Picola & District Football League until it was forced in 2011 into recess by the VCFL because they were deemed to be uncompetitive. The club was based in the small Victorian town of Wunghnu, which is approximately 200 km north of Melbourne. Wunghnu played from 1888 to 1930 in the Goulburn Valley Football Association, a forerunner to the Murray Football League. From 1924 to 1928, the Wunghnu and Drumanure Football Clubs merged to form the Drumanure-Wunghnu side. Kyabram & District Football League
The Kyabram District Football League (KDL) is an Australian rules football league in Victoria. It is made up of 15 teams; the most recent additions include Dookie United in 2018 and Shepparton East in 2019. The KDL is made up of smaller country town football clubs in the Goulburn Valley. The majority of these towns have a population base of around 1000 people, each of these clubs aims to field four football sides in the Senior, Reserve, Under 18 and Under 13 divisions of the KDFL as well as eight netball sides in A-Grade, B-Grade, C-Grade, C Reserve, 17 & Under, 15 & Under, 13 & Under and 11 & Under divisions, The KDL season is made up of 18 rounds in the home and away season, with each side playing 16 games, at the conclusion of the home and away season, the top six teams in each division face off in the finals series. Undera Football Club is an Australian rules football club located in Undera, Victoria. History The first recorded football matches for Undera Football Club were in 1888, when Undera played several matches against Kyabram. Undera competed in the Goulburn Valley Football Association from 1890 to 1893 and defeated Mooroopna in the 1891 – Grand Final for the Elder's Hotel (Undera) Elder Medals. Toolamba
Toolamba is a town in the Goulburn Valley region of Victoria, Australia. It is in the City of Greater Shepparton local government area, north of the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Toolamba and the surrounding area had a population of 873. The Post Office opened on 1 January 1873. After the arrival of the railway this office closed and a Toolamba East office opened near the station, which was renamed Toolamba in 1895. The railway station of the same name is located on the Goulburn Valley railway line opened in 1880, but was closed to passenger traffic in 1987. The station also serves as a junction with the line to Echuca.
